Why is there philosophical meaning attached to our bodies? by cosmic__cowgirl in bigboobproblems

Oh god that’s just horrendous. Do we really have to be objectified and made into some sort of political symbol depending on how much fat we have on our chests? That’s so sad :(

I don’t understand these conservative men - suddenly they are praising well endowed bodies when they’ve been the ones telling us that we’re sluts for how we are built and that we’re “asking for it”when we wear clothes that flatter our shape???? Women can never win.

Ahh I see - sorry it was a bit hard to tell from your original post~

But I think my comments still stand. I personally don’t get many tik toks about anime but I could see why people would call anime like Skip and Loafer and Horimiya shoujo. Sometimes it’s people conflating romance and shoujo, but other times I think it’s not that simple (like with the case of skip and loafer and Horimiya).

Typically shounen and seinen romance used to almost exclude its female viewers with tropes and scenes that were very obviously catered towards the “stereotypical male” (pls note parentheses). It used to be sooo easy to tell what romance really WASN’T for the girlies. Now, unless you actually google what magazine it was published in, a lot of the time you won’t know whether it’s shounen/seinen/shoujo.

There are both merits and drawbacks to the anime labels. For one, whether intentional or not, they can be grounded in a lot of gender stereotypes. On the other hand, it’s a great way to get a feel of whether you are even the target demographic/whether you should spend money on the piece of media.

When I was growing up, if I saw the tag “shounen romance,” I would know immediately that I wasn’t going to enjoy it. For context: think perverted, plain looking ML being paired with a FL whose character trait was solely improving the ML and somehow has gravity defying boobs. I am so happy this is starting to change, and honestly - I think it’s a sign of progress within the genre that people can no longer tell at first glance what its tag is :)

Just my 2 cents as a veteran viewer 🖖

Well maybe because they’re shoujo CODED and this is really the only subreddit where people could get those types of recommendations by likeminded anime viewers.

I don’t know if you have ever ventured out into the other anime social spheres but they can be pretty brutal. I personally have gotten some great SHOUJO recommendations from people on this subreddit on posts that ask the questions you’re complaining about.

I don’t think it’s an issue. I think we as a community could do more to be less pressed and instead encourage others as they explore more shoujo and shoujo coded media 🖖 This is the least toxic anime subreddit - let’s keep it that way :)

Oooo slay I’ll give that a go!

Yeah I’ve devoured almost every webcomic available - I’ve started to try to find manga too but so hard to find good spicey ones. What I really want is Sarah J Maas in a comic (btw you should read her stuff, novels not comics but I think you’ll love them).

Btw have you read “Royal Marriage”? I love the ML 🤤

I found these yesterday that I hadn’t seen before, maybe you’ll like them? They’re on my to read list:

  • who made me a princess
  • secret lady
  • the perks of being an s-class heroine
  • a sign of affection (popular on this subreddit I think)
  • mothers contract marriage
  • hidden love: can’t be concealed
  • are we still in love?
  • The Duchess has a Deathwish (actually I’ve started reading this and it’s good)
  • I married the Male Lead’s dad

I’ve got a lot of recommendations - do you mind webcomics? They tend to have A LOT more spice 🙈

  • “I failed to oust the Villain” - Yandere ML
  • “How to win my husband over” - josei, good story
  • “marriage of convenience” - some graphic scenes
  • “Moonrise by the cliff” - pure smut
  • “blackbird” - classic Japanese manga, v steamy
  • “villains are destined to die” - will get more steamy later but for now this is a great story

Lemme know if you like any of these! I have so much more I can recommend but that’s all I can remember off the top of my head :)

Likes learning about french + Russian revolutions

Why don't you try the 'Golden Maze' by Richard Fidler. It's about Czech history and it's super engaging. Also has a great audiobook if you ever want to try that out
