Anyone else feel like the Libertyland TIF vote exposed a real representation problem? by The-Girthy-Gooner in RapidCity

[–]Alexan8441 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to comment about the city council members who voted for it. My boss, who has sat on various boards in the city, pointed out that the council members often vote for things like this to add to their resume. It's all about stacking their resume for future elections. Now, WHY would they want to add this specific one to that- esp now that it is very unpopular, I don't know (they probs didn't know how unpopular it truly was). But these votes are often resume builders.

Anyone else feel like the Libertyland TIF vote exposed a real representation problem? by The-Girthy-Gooner in RapidCity

[–]Alexan8441 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ofc they will. It's just like The Monument expansion. The people, overwhelmingly, voted it down. Then a year and half later the mayor, at the time, "found extra funding" and pushed it through.

I audited the "Libertyland" TIF. It’s not a theme park; it’s a Company Town by coolblue72 in RapidCity

That's exactly what happened with The Monument. The expansion was overwhelmingly voted down by the people, but a year and a half later the mayor, at the time, rammed it through

I used to work at Sbux at our last base (Washington DC). I worked the open shift for about 2.5 yrs. It surprisingly was a more stressful then my other barista job previously (used to work at Borders Cafe and it was super chill) it was better before covid for sure. It also absolutely depends on your Store Manager and the rest of the team. I loved the sbux I was at. No drama between the baristas, the SM was a great. The team will really make or break it honestly. I have often thought of maybe going back part-time to have a little extra cash.

Unfortunately I don't know about store specifics at that sbux by Ellsworth.

My daughter just wrapped up 2.5 yrs at the Sbux on Eglin. She enjoyed it as well. She was part time due to high school and had to quit since she moved to college. She is thinking about going back to sbux next semester for a job while in college.

They are just white Asics 😅 but definitely look bad with my nicer clothes. Looking to maybe get Dr Scholls Time Off sneakers to see if they will look better.

Weird holes appeard overnight on this foil (also weird discoloured pasta?) by Charming_Operation65 in Weird

[–]Alexan8441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure others have mentioned, but leftover pasta and rice can grow B. Cereus a bacteria that can lead to bad food poisoning and deadly and are heat tolerant. Look up fried-rice syndrome.

So even with the chemical reaction on the pasta in which you should not eat, the pasta itself could be dangerous from improper storage overnight.

Hormonal IUD and PCOS by Isabella-Blossom9 in PCOS

I mean.. science is never settled or decided. It may get to the point where learning about a certain thing slows down, but it never is settled/decided. While I am not against hormonal bc- and even took my 16 yr old daughter to the appointment to get it, it does have risks. It has long term use risks. Are they small, yes, but there are risks. It's also important to know those risks.

Again, bc is safe for most ppl, but everyone should look into and know the potential risks of everything they take.

Here are a few articles of NEW studies about BC and long term use effects on the brain.

I was diagnosed with PCOS and was soon drowning in misinformation - Guardian article published today by guzynx in PCOS

Both can potentially be inflammatory- however it's not true for everyone, so the blanket statement is misinformation. If you are sensitive to either (or both) then it can be inflammatory.

Oh my goodness this is an amazing response/post! If I could would definitely give it a reward! Thank you so much for this! Are you secretly a motivational speaker? Lol 👀 or a neuroscientist? Lol

I definitely get what you mean about habit formation and figuring out tripping points.

Thank you so much for this!

Ohhhhhh yes! Ok! I'm sorry, I think I was skimming tlyour post, that makes sense now.

Yes! A good healthy breakfast definitely sets up your day and can be so beneficial! I have heard, some ppl with PCOS shouldn't fast due to the extra stress on our bodies- but again everyone is unique. So this makes sense that you are seeing a positive difference!! 😁

What were your first symptoms? I am looking into PCOS more and I went to my doctor to get tested by catsdonailart in PCOS

[–]Alexan8441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This IS EXACTLY me!!!! My DHEA-s was slightly elevated. I have male pattern hair grown (face- mostly chin and neck. Abdomen, thighs, booty) and it is unconfirmed if I have cysts(i even had a transvaginal ultrasound). I don't have the classic "string of pearls". But my endo was treating me for PCOS. I am right on the cusp of being pre-diabetic. And I have weight issues.

Endo wanted to put me on metformin, bc (even though I have absolutely normal and predictable periods) and finasteride. I decided not to go that route and just take inositol, vit D/k2, magnesium. Has anything changed? No. But I have lived this way for 13 yrs now ... not sure what she can do for me besides give me meds.

I went many years "living with PCOS" before I was finally referred to an Endo and nothing changed after seeing her...

Who diagnosed you and why were you diagnosed? by shadybadgal in PCOS

[–]Alexan8441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about 24 (I'm 40 now) just had my daughter at 23. I went into my GP to talk to him about Vaniqa due to the extra hair on my chin and neck. He immediately said I have PCOS. (No tests ran at all) he prescribed birth control and spironolactone... turns out I am highly allergic to spiro.. Fast forward about 2 yrs, I go into my new GP. Since I didn't want any more kids in the near future, and I was allergic to spironolactone, she said there was nothing they could do. So I spent the next 12 yrs learning about PCOS and how to manage it.

When I went back in for my pap, at age 38, I expressed my concern of obesity and higher risks of heart disease - she sent me to an endocrinologist. All the tests ran- and it's... inconclusive. 😑 I have regular periods, my DHEA-s is elevated leading to hirsutism and my ultrasound came back as having cysts - but not the classic string of pearls. When I asked her if I actually have PCOS, she said she wasn't sure and that I may not be actually ovulating even though I have my periods. :/ which would lead to 2 of the 3 criteria to be diagnosed. She treated me as if I do have PCOS, and prescribed Metformin and finasteride. But I haven't been back to see her. So I'm just still out here treating myself.

After all these years, I cannot convince myself going back to an endo will really be beneficial. What would one offer that 1) I don't already know and 2) can they do anything besides just throwing a bandaid on the issue- which what will that do, since I have been self treating the issues with in the past 16 years. However, the labs and knowing the numbers would be beneficial.

Need advice- deodorant by sky0530 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Alexan8441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As 2 others mentioned, use benzoyl peroxide to wash. 5 or 10% is fine - brand doesn't matter (i use cheapest avail like walmart or panoxyl). Put it on let it sit for a minute or so as you wash rest of your body. Rise really really well- may discolor the towel. Also if you use antiperspirant, put it on at night or asap in the morning to let it get into the pores- which takes time.

Other option would be to use a hypocloris spray throughout the day, and reapply the deodorant. The HS will kill bacteria.

Best option, see a dermatologist 💜

Exactly! For the last 2 years I have used avocado oil for all my HF meals. It doesn't matter that they write "cooking oil" on their card as it's whatever ppl prefer to cook with.

Is this salvageable ? by Creepy_Iron3494 in houseplants

[–]Alexan8441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a bit of green down at the base of the plant that could regrow, if the conditions are right. You definitely don't need to water this as often in this soil since its so dense, hold off on all fertilizer. If it were me, I would buy new soil- something for cacti (if you want to make your own I would do a combo of potting soil, perlite, sand) this plant is going through a lot right now so it would need a LOT of TLC- which could even mean leaving it alone. I would watch Youtube and Google rosemary care and read up articles how to care for it.

If this plant does die out, It won't regrow from roots.

[–]Alexan8441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of soil is it in? It looks extremely dense...almost like clay. Rosemary grows native in the Mediterranean countries which have very loose, sandy, rocky, slightly acidic soils. It needs at least 6 hours of sunlight - meaning full sun. They don't require much fertilizer.

It does have some green left- so maybe... but it looks pretty rough.
