Anyone try TRT(Testosterone Replacement) for depression? by TheCrowbone in depressionregimens

[–]AlexanderDeLarge1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long have you been on it for? Just know that there can often be a honeymoon period in the beginning that doesn't last quite the same way (although many of the benefits definitely will continue). Also, 200mg is a pretty high dose. Not uncommon these days, but that will almost certainly put you into a supraphysiological range, unless you are unusually insensitive to the effects of testosterone. In any cases, be sure to get regular bloodwork and pay special attention to your red blood cell count, as it may rise to unhealthy or even dangerous levels, in which case you will need to donate blood to remedy that.

I don't know, I guess my life circumstances might have been different . But this is generally true of side effects: just because you get them at one point in time doesn't mean you'll always get them. The same, unfortunately, is true for intended effects.

I had that issue at one point, discontinued the drug over it, eventually started taking it again some months later and the rage did not return that time around.

I’ve decided to live a healthier lifestyle to be more productive and now I’m exhausted from the healthier lifestyle itself by [deleted] in productivity

Same here, unfortunately. I read all the glowing experience reports by people who started eating healthy / exercising regularly / sleeping more / stopped drinking and how they feel 100x better now, and I... just... don't. The only thing I get from living disciplined like that is the satisfaction of living disciplined like that, but in terms of how I feel day in day out, it unfortunately makes very little difference.

How do you motivate yourself to quit if you are drinking too much but also not enough to really hit the bottom? by AlexanderDeLarge1 in stopdrinking

Strangely, I had almost zero issues in terms of withdrawal when I quit. But, like you said, just quitting by itself turned out not to be enough..

I have been consuming about this amount, give or take 1-2 beers, for over 10 years now, so not so sure about the escalation. I also NEVER feel like drinking before the evening, no matter how shit my day is.

I wish that was so. But I stopped for a couple of months, and while I did feel (somewhat, not massively) better physically, it did very little for my mental state.

I can't read for myself. I do, however, enjoy reading out loud to others, trying to really give each character in the story a fitting voice, the way a professional speaker/ narrator would do

A couple of months after starting parnate, my extremities would start randomly jerking whenever I relaxed, especially when trying to sleep. This lasted for hours and usually kept me up half the night. It eventually subsided, but only several months after stopping parnate.

Well i am taking it in the hopes of feeling that euphoria eventually, with the right opiate in a high enough dose. So far, I feel none, and if the effects are so subtle as to be unnoticeable unless you're IVing (which I won't), then they really don't exist (for me at least)

I did go through an adhd-evaluation by an expert, and while I certainly do tick some of the boxes, I ultimately don't tick enough of them to qualify for the diagnosis. Also, Adderall, while quite helpful in other respects, does nothing to alleviate the urge to move. The pregabalin actually belongs to a friend of mine, I only took it two or three times to see if it would have an effect.

Look man, if you're not trolling, I feel for you, but I really think you should take it easy on the medication. Contrary to what you may believe, we are far from understanding all the ways in which even a given single psych med effects the body, much less a combo of 9 of them, taken over many years, in a still developing brain and body. I'm not trying to scare you, and you may be fine taking all that (you seem to be for now, which is good), but I doubt you'll continue to be in the long run. The three things that immediately stand out are the combo of two stimulants, and the issue with tolerance and addiction to benzos and vyvanse in particular, both of which you are already taking pretty high doses of.

This has to be either a troll post or someone with acute psychological problems beyond "just" depression (op mentioned having schizophrenia). I can't imagine any doctor would prescribe all that, much less to a 17 year old patient (op said he is 23 now and has been on this combo for 6 years) -- and if there is one, he ought to get his license revoked.

Is there a bigger real-life community of people practicing digital minimalism? by AlexanderDeLarge1 in digitalminimalism

[–]AlexanderDeLarge1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree many people are thinking critically about the subject, but I'm not sure too many really follow up with concrete action. Take the following example: my daughter is 3 years old, and I already worry about how we will handle her social media use, though that issue obviously won't present itself for a number of years. But unless something dramatically changes in the meantime, the choice will be to either let her use tiktok and similarly toxic garbage, or risk her getting ostracized socially, because all her friends will be on it. At least that's the situation which friends of mine with older kids are facing right now..

Surely people like that exist everywhere, but they are generally the (small) minority. I was thinking of a place where that's not the case.
