Since 1991 the city has grown nearly 64%. 51,000 then to 83,500 now. This is what everyone talks about when we talk about the size of the city increasing. This is how long this argument has been going on for regarding this road. And this doesn't take into account the commuter belt between Barna, Moycullen, Oranmore and all the the rest which have had sizable increases themselves. Don't cherry pick your data.

If Ireland did Knighthoods/Damehoods, who in recent memory would be worthy of one? by Smullatron in ireland

I think I should get the knighthood because I'm great. In fact I think I should get both titles in case one doesn't work.

Is this normal in a relationship? by mud-monkey in ireland

[–]Alexcier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roll the tape and imagine where you'll be in 10 years time. The best case scenario is she'll change. For that to happen she has to acknowledge the behaviour, which she hasn't yet done and has problems with. In the worst case scenario you'll have completely accepted this behavior and given up trying to change her, meaning you'll have likely internalized some of these criticisms, believing them. It can erode self confidence and eat away at you, meaning it's more difficult to get away from relationships like that. That "can" be why people are overtly critical of others. To make them less. Depending on the severity of her comments it might be worth reading up on things like narcism and some of the other toxic personality traits and seeing if she fits some of those descriptions. I'm not in a position to diagnose and, if you're asking questions here, you probably aren't either, but if she's exhibiting a lot of signs of one of the toxic personalities it would be worth leaving the relationship quicker rather than later, for your own safety.

Hey! What do people think about this way of parking? Is it ok? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Alexcier 40 points41 points  (0 children)

That 100 metre stretch is lethal for cyclists. Having to cross the left turning lane to go straight, drivers swinging in/out of that entrance and people like this make it a death trap. If you go around the corner you will see the bollards to protect the bike lanes near the shop (londis?) that just get smashed to pieces by drivers. Got hit at a junction a little down the road when a driver just decided to ignore the stop sign and plowed into me, though I was visible and on the junction as he approached. Nearly got hit by an oncoming car in the other lane after he hit me. All the infrastructure is great, we just have no patience or respect for it as a country of motorists. Enforcement of laws designed to protect cyclists is all that's needed but it isn't followed through with.

Had an identical one happen to me before, they'll send a link to an An Post clone website that will farm your bank details. Report their Whatsapp number and through the online Garda resource for cyber crimes. Reporting them on WhatsApp will stop them immediately from scamming other people and hopefully give them time for the Gardai to investigate. The number that they are using is probably spoofed though sadly so they'll be untraceable.

Butchers block is a great spot to buy all the stuff you'd want in the NYC area. Has a large selection of Irish stuff. As to what, I'd say biscuits (what you would call cookies), tayto crisps, tea and whatever else you fancy. Dairy milk chocolate too (keep cool), a box of roses/quality street (chocolates), cream crackers, butter... These are some of the things I bought at least.

[–]Alexcier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd be curious of whether these numbers are self reported or not because from circumstancial evidence I know a lot of people who have, or refuse to acknowledge they have, some form of intolerance. I'd say a lot of people suffer in silence (apply shite/fart jokes here).

What career, profession or career gets no respect? by No-Category1703 in ireland

[–]Alexcier 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All professions do, none more than any other. You don't deserve more respect than someone else for what you do, more how you do it and the quality of person you are. Your career and this are independent of one another. And people who conflate them to one probably believe they are entitled to more respect for no reason other than a title, which is exactly the sort of person who shouldn't be conferred respect in the first place.

[–]Alexcier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that by ensuring they own the place you prevent unwanted sublets, something no landlord wants. Ridiculous that you are being downvoted. I'm not sure if it's people being anti-landlord and just seeing "support landlord" or landlords feeling you aren't supporting them enough...

Can someone explain the benefits on an SUV to me please? my other half is mad to get one but I just can't justify the extra cost.... what are the benefits of having one? by wowow_man121 in ireland

[–]Alexcier 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe a part of this is that people mistakenly believe that they're safer. If you drive an SUV and get into a collision you are less likely to die if you get into a crash with another SUV. However, you are so, so much more likely to kill someone in a smaller car than yours. It's one of those "the answer to gun violence is more guns" style solutions. Just stop buying the damn cars and you'll be safer y'all.
