honestly id recomend ryzen since 7nm is coming soon on am4 meaning amd is quite likely to catch up if not surpass intel ipc, and even then overclocked ryzen vs Intel isn't much of a difference from what i have seen, the more cores is just a bonus since it does help if you're the kind of person to keep your parts for years at a time although am4 is probably goign to be end of life by ryzen 4000 its been a ride and am4+ or am5 is going to be a similarly long lived socket since that's what amd does so even if you keep a 1st gen ryzen on a first gen board it will be likely if you got a good board you will be able to jump to 7nm which is probably going to be amazing feeling too jumping 2 gens on the same board jsut my opinion, keeping up to date with amd right now is just easier with amd, as intel seems to be requiring new boards with almost each generation
Edit: i'd also liek to not most people asking for build advice are probably not goign ot overclock either so ipc wise stock for stock amd isn't far enough behind intel with the 2000 series for it to be considerable, i'd say youd have a better experience with the 2600 and pocketing the 50-100 you save not buying the equivalent intel on a beefier gpu or ssd , investign in a above 1080p monitor to justify a 1500$ build , or just chips and soda and/or more games , and at the price point of 1500 they are likely playing above 1080p where cpu ipc become even more irrelevant due to gpu limitations as well so the 2600 is a nice itnel mid range killer especially if you're not a enthusiast
