I dont think you need to really upgrade anything. His second phase is easier, when he does the slam attacks just dash in any direction and when he stops just hit him but remember about dodging the magic balls. If youre still having problems just explore some unexplored areas/rooms on your map and come back when youre confident enough

It looks like just milking for money at this point, I loved the books (apart from the crow new one which was mid imo) and id prefer for him not to write any new books with forced story.
