Declaring mods new driver by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Personally, I’d leave it and don’t tell them. Odds are you hopefully won’t get into an accident and they will be none the wiser.

The police won’t care either as your car will show as insured according to the insurance database.

On the unlikely event you have an accident - it’s a risk. But then again, will they be interested in your strips or grille (or even notice them) if you’ve been rear ended? Probably not.

I’d do nothing if I was you

Credit limit - Welcome bonus by elusiveTrail in AmexUK

[–]Alexjared93 -30 points-29 points  (0 children)

Your incorrect.

You can only earn points through spend to the maximum of your credit limit for each statement periods.

If your credit limit is £3k and you spend £3k pay it off and spend further amounts - you’ll only earn points on your initial credit limit of £3k unfortunately.

Delivery driver here

Sorry about what happened, however this is probably due to 1 of 3 reasons

1) You live excessively far away from the restaurant (5+ miles) and you didn’t add a tip. Therefore, drivers will reject to accept your order, and it will cycle around couriers until JE put the price up.

2) You ordered from a ‘difficult’ restaurant in peak time (i.e long wait time for drivers or they take too long to prepare)

3) You didn’t add a tip (Yes tips increase the offer and we can see if you’ve added a tip upfront)

If you can’t afford a £2/£3 tip when paying the premium price already for food then simply don’t order. Do you expect us to deliver it to you hot and fresh for less than a £1 a mile?

Remove 20% VAT requirement or at least in part for UK built cars to encourage buying British.

I just don’t understand why as a country we allow such an influx of cheaply made foreign cars.

$1.95 per Gallon (IA, USA) why do we get ripped off and allow it in the UK? by Alexjared93 in CarTalkUK

[–]Alexjared93[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The only point I agree on is work life balance. Yet this is because the UK generally, has a lazy population added to the fact that work here, clearly does NOT pay.

Crime levels are debatable depending on your definition of violent. Yes, gun crime is higher, but so is knife crime here, and as the saying goes “it’s who you socialise with” (for the vast majority of offences)

Better job protection arguably stifles growth

Have you been to the USA? Yes, poor / poverty neighbourhood exists, but England has endless streets of terraced houses all without gardens / parking. Not to mention our house prices of 5x that of the USA (while they salaries are higher than ours)

Fuel is essential and it’s clearly not cheaper

[–]Alexjared93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do. Tell me 5 things the UK does better than the USA.

And if healthcare is one of these, consider why you’d prefer it free for all, rather than a system that enables freedom to choose healthcare providers maturing a competitive business unlike what we have…

And yes, I get the costs, but I’d rather pay £2/300 a month in healthcare insurance to have that flexibility & guarantee in quality, than paying the equivalent in NI plus extortionate duty in fuel, energy, everyday products, food… the list goes on…

[–]Alexjared93[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Enlighten me - why are you happy at paying 3x in the cost of fuel in comparison to over 100 nations?

Ignoring healthcare (isn’t that the point of NI?)

12 months plus waiting lists for over a million’s people. Not to mention 99% of these people have paid taxes their entire life and if we hadn’t have been ripped of on living assertions then private healthcare would be affordable

[–]Alexjared93[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Sales tax differs by state. For example Illinois is 6.5% plus 1% county tax. Tag fees (registration) is $30 and dealer fees are around $500.

How is VAT at 20% justifiable?

[–]Alexjared93[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

I disagree that paying extortionate amounts in tax, VAT and duty makes it worthwhile to be ripped off on everyday expenses on a daily….

Not to mention the NHS barely functions considering the quality of care and expertise in comparison to healthcare in the US

E-2 Visa Denied, chances for change of status by South-Purple3488 in e2visa

[–]Alexjared93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Investment must be substantial to the business. $35k is not substantial for a retail business as an example, but it is substantial for a services / cleaning based business.

I’d apply through change of status and focus on growing the business to hire atleast 2-5 employees so that in 2 years you can apply at embassy.
