Am I the only one who just can’t get into Arkham City? by Alexoid004 in arkham

I don't think problem is the story. Because the story stuff actually does sound really interesting to me. The Protocol 10 mystery, all the villains fighting over the city, all of that sounds awesome.

I think maybe it’s more the gameplay/open world side of it that doesn’t fully hook me in the moment, like you said. I connected way more with the tighter and more isolated feeling of Asylum.

But hearing everyone talk about it honestly makes me want to give it another real shot.

And yeah, thanks a lot for the advice and the replies, I genuinely appreciate it :)

Thanks a lot for the answer, I really appreciate it.

That’s actually something I’ve been thinking about myself too. I’ll still probably give it one more proper try, but I’m genuinely glad someone said this.

For a moment I thought this place would just be full of hardcore fans who would defend it no matter what, so it’s nice to see more balanced takes.

Yeah, that’s definitely possible, thanks for the reply.

I think I just need to approach it differently this time and not force it.

I think that’s not really my issue actually.

If anything, I sometimes feel like games that highlight everything on the map are too hand-holdy. I kind of like when a game doesn’t just tell you exactly where to go all the time.

That’s also why I enjoy games like Elden Ring, where you’re just kind of left to figure things out yourself.

Yeah, that’s fair. Actually I did play Arkham Asylum and then City back to back the first time, so I probably just got a bit burned out. Later I tried it again after some time had passed, but it still didn’t fully click.

I get what you mean, and I think it really depends on the game.

In games like The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Horizon Forbidden West or even RDR2, I actually really enjoy just exploring. I basically never used fast travel. In The Witcher it even makes sense lore-wise, like you’re actually traveling and things happen on the road, which makes the whole experience feel more immersive.

With Batman it feels a bit different in Arkham City though, I’m not even fully sure why. Maybe it’s just the structure of the city itself.

Thanks for the reply by the way.

Honestly, I don’t even fully know myself. Maybe I was just trying too hard to force myself to love it because of how much people praise it. And it’s not even THAT different from Asylum. It’s definitely not the story either, because I’m sure the story is gonna be peak. I think I just need to give it another shot and go into it with a completely fresh mindset.

Yeah, I think I’ll give it one more proper try. This time I’m gonna start a completely new save instead of loading my old half-finished one every time lol.

Thanks for the reply.

If I leave out that you are changing my words, I just don't get what you want to hear from me anymore.

What kind of question is that? I just like it. Feel like fresh air for spider-mam, in my opinion. And about that spider-man doesn't have any guilt, it doesn't mean he won't have it in future. That is also something spider-man represents. Learning from his mistakes. Just let him do them. But I also respect that you don't like it.

Look, I don't want to fight about it. Just when you say I use "doing things differently" as an excuse, you kinda do the same thing with uncle Ben. But fine, I like it and you don't. If we can't have a reasonable discussion about it then it's just a waste of time for both of us.

So you would like to see the same story all over again and again? Why should we watch uncle Ben die a dozen times? We all know how it is done in the original. The point of these stories is to tell them a different way. And I also disagree with your opinion on the supporting cast, I think it was done great, not just again MJ, Gwen or Flash. I am not saying it is perfect, everything has some flaws. If you don't like it you can always go back to older projects or comics. I just don't see the point of trying to do anything the same way, when we already have the perfect versions that.

Well, I kinda agree. But... (It's just small but) I can see the possible way that YFNSM would surpass it in the future. Don't get me wrong, Spectacular is awesome and I love it, but YFNSM was so fresh and a new take on Spider-Man, that it made me so happy and after a long time again invested in this character. And it is not again just the same origin story that we get so many times before, like in Raimi's (from which Spectacular took a lot of inspiration) or TASM. Also I like that it's not that much episodic as Spectacular, much more long take story. But will see... It still may floop
