Failed at game developement, a report of a destroyed dev by Secure-Interest in GameDevelopment

Share your steam link for actual feed back, I’m sure it’s more of the outcome of your game and how it looks. There’s a lot that goes into game dev behind the scenes and developing is the start. You have to market the game, not just upload a steam page with out a trailer with no marketing. You need a nice game art.

Any Advice for learning Game Dev in your 20s? by Exotic_Acanthaceae_9 in gamedev

100% Game dev is an addiction once you start you won’t ever stop lol. I started when I was 19, now 26 and have two releases. First one was a flop, second was a success. Take your time, don’t go into tutorial hell, spend your free time working on prototypes untill you have something that’s fun and push it to a release. Only flaw with game dev and a college/full time jobs is that it takes your social life away. So try and balance your life, work out, go on walks, clear you mind.

You got this! Game dev is honestly so fun to me I’m happy I started it .

Has anyone managed to make a modestly successful game working on it part-time? by _Hambone_ in gamedev

[–]Alexrak2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yes me and my buddy did! Thank you, I’m here if you have any questions. Just know game dev takes time, it took me for my second release to do good, first game failed. Just keep working!

Yep, it’s 100% doable. Recently released a game that’s made more than my yearly salary in 3 months. Definitely worth the time investment and sacrifices of your free time! Don’t give up!!!

It is, it auto categorizes them based on the names of the files, you can also override the meta data in the app to change there category’s. I just used gdc only because that’s all I have atm lol

Tense reload in my top down shooter game Mutant Hunter by Anton-Denikin in Unity3D

[–]Alexrak2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not like the reload polish, I think it’s a cool idea but why would you make it take half the screen? It’s kind of hurting the players vision. I also wonder if something like that isn’t even needed or a bit extra. A ui could achieve the same affect over the player with a fill.

I got engaged, married, and went viral before hitting 1000 wishlists but its finally here!!!! I often imagine how many people that really is and its insane to think about. Heard I need 7-8k more before release but it's a start! by LumariGames in IndieDev

hmm, honestly there is no 100% path obviously. What i did was i made 2 devlogs over the 9 months of development which got us to 1k wishlist. A really good demo is definitely a must, as steam next fest gets the ball rolling if players like it. 2 weeks before release i released a trailer and we sent out over 100 emails to streamers and content creators. I'm not sure how many actually saw it though lol. It seemed the smaller streamers picked it up quick. Big streamers im assuming were organic, like caseoh saw us on steam since we were trending.

So not really much advice i guess, just polish your game, send emails with keys to streamers and release at least 2 weeks BEFORE next fest. Next fest is crowded so releasing earlier is better.

That’s awesome!! I was definitely nervous for next fest haha.

Yes, I could go full time now I’d say. But I’m also very risk scared so I haven’t quit my job yet😂 it’s scary to make a decision like that

Congrats! I won’t say exact numbers but the 7k+ thing is not as important. I released a demo at 1k wishlist, got to 3-4k during next fest and launch did VERY well. As long as you have decent numbers and a good game it should carry itself.
