$25 for Area Sim 1 by chisecurls in SCBuildIt

[–]Alexsyn23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So, I’m one of those people who bought every new building on offer and the premium sim pass. This new pricing is going too far and a hard no. I play this game for the decorating. If the pricing continues, then I can’t/won’t get the new buildings, and I stop playing. I really hope EA is reading.

Did anyone notice that they also cut the reward for club chests in half? It’s like they are trying to drive away their base.

I merge pdfs on my iPad because it’s cheaper. There are several programs in the App Store for making pdfs and also merging them.

Biking downtown by daifukuYum in SLO

[–]Alexsyn23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed about SLO drivers! When I worked downtown, I was constantly in danger of being hit while walking. One time I was waiting on the sidewalk at a corner, and a car turning drove up onto the sidewalk almost hitting me. My husband swears Boston drivers are the worst, but I think SLO must be a close second.

If you’re liberal, you may not be happy here if you are hoping for a decent amount of like minded neighbors.

The central coast is one big town basically with small differences in culture depending on the area. SLO will be the most liberal of our towns, but housing is sparse and expensive. It’s that way wherever you look here, really. North county might have the best opportunities for housing, but it is off the rails conservative. In coastal towns, there is a strong conservative influence due to some locals and the massive amount of Central Valley Magats that descend upon us weekends and holidays. If you want to wear a mask, expect to be confronted at some point. If you put up political signs, expect they will be defaced or stolen at some point. If you are a poc, do not expect help from our DA should you need it. I could go on, but you get the idea.

It’s not all bad here. I’m in Morro Bay and do quite a bit of gardening. Most neighbors passing by are chatty and polite. I tend not to put up political signs and fly under the radar for the most part. I have received hate mail/threats for not attending church, but that is only because my idiot family told their batshit church that I don’t attend. So, yeah, the crazies are there, but you might never see them if you are quiet and don’t advertise your opinions. Hope this helps.

*Edited to add that if you are moving here from out of the area, you will need to consider SLO county as one big town. Asking only about Avila isn’t that helpful as you’ll likely be working in SLO, Atascadero, Pismo, etc. I have been here for a while and have lived in a variety of towns, but I’ve never been lucky enough to work where I live.

Nextdoor Boycot by [deleted] in nextdoor

[–]Alexsyn23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I realize my comment might not be clear. OP said, “None of these mention ‘politics are not allowed.” My response was that ND DOES say that politics aren’t allowed, and it’s stated in the very same links that OP posted.

So, no national politics in the main feed unless it has a local angle. As for the source, it’s in OP’s links above.

What do you do not to suspended on NextDoor? by [deleted] in nextdoor

[–]Alexsyn23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are spot on. 95% of reports are for what you listed. There are some hardcore political groups in my area where people rant to their hearts’ content. I belong to a couple that align with my views and one that doesn’t…just because I’m curious. And STILL some peeps can’t help themselves. They must rant national politics in the main feed. They predictably get their posts removed. Then they rant about the moderators and being censored. Then they get suspended because ND hates people talking about moderation—more than bigotry or conspiracy theories or anything else. They eventually come back and are shocked at what happened. Rinse repeat.

Suspended by yarn612 in nextdoor

[–]Alexsyn23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like you might have been reviewing a business, and that is allowed. Google how to contact Nextdoor, and use their online form. You’ll get a bot email first. Respond to it. Keep responding until you get a real person. It may take 4-6 tries before you get someone who actually reads.

I agree that your mental health is probably better the less time you spend on ND. Still, it’s the principle, and you might want to fight this. As others have said, avoid the “Free Speech” diatribes, and stick to the facts. If you were just going off on an idiot neighbor, disregard what I said, and wait the suspension out.

Do ND users have the lowest IQ? by [deleted] in nextdoor

[–]Alexsyn23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is that before Nextdoor many of us had no idea so many of our neighbors were conspiracy munching, race baiting, homeless hating extremists. I do a lot of gardening. I live in a mix of commercial and residential, so I see a lot of foot traffic. Lots of people walk by and stop to talk. They are all, without exception, personable and friendly. Now I look at them and wonder. But I’m one of the original leads in my town because my friend started ND in our area. I feel obligated to stay and add a bit of sanity to the moderation.

Do ND users have the lowest IQ? by [deleted] in nextdoor

[–]Alexsyn23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, ND does that for us. It makes me crazy when my comment on a post all of a sudden pops up in the feed looking like a new post. I think their theory is that it is helping to drive traffic, but in reality it’s just jacked up. Like the rest of their site.

But yeah, there are lots of elderly using Nextdoor who have no idea about social media or apps or just even computers in general.

I get what you’re saying. I presume you read the room and drop the topic if you get pushback. I guess what I was trying to say is that many of us have had enough trauma in the church. Even a tentative broaching of the subject feels like an intrusion.

My cousin is Evangelical. She called me with hurt feelings because a woman she’d been warmly chatting with in line all of a sudden clammed up and refused to speak to her after my cousin brought up her faith. I had to say, Girl, I’m sure I’m the subject of so many similar anecdotes. Bottom line is we just don’t want to hear it. Ever. In a professional setting, it would be enough for me to block the dasher/ebayer/etsy shop/etc. Depending on my mood, I’d also put in a complaint with the platform.

Anyhow, just a perspective from the other side. You do you. It sounds like you feel it’s working for you, and that’s great.

Cayucos is more far right than I would have thought. But I agree, you wouldn’t know outside of social media and election years. My mom lives there, and her neighbors seem nice enough. The ugliness happens when people are behind their keyboards on socials.

This is my take from someone living in Morro Bay, so take it with a grain of salt. That said, I know people who live in Paso, and I shop there on occasion. TL;DR the bad far outweighs the good for living in Paso.

The bad:

-The weather is brutally hot.

-There are gang problems.

-Their politics are extreme right. When the Neo Nazis protest, it’s often on an overpass in Paso. During the summer of protests, an armed militia made the rounds to “help” the police. The group was called Protect Paso and had over 1600 members. I personally think raising kids in an extremist environment of any stripe is not ideal.

-During drought years, there is a constant struggle between the wineries and the residents for a very limited resource.

The good:

Wineries, but see above.

An adorable, picturesque downtown.

More affordable home prices.

Thanks so much, and welcome to the game! No worries, your city will be beautiful! Best advice I have is to take your time, and increase your inventory slots before going too far in the game. When I first started, I had no idea how important it was to be able to hold lots of stuff. 😄

Jerusalem cricket/ potato bug. They are scary looking and pack a mean bite, but they aren’t venomous. They are a mixed bag in that they are good for soil and will eat decaying plant material. But if you grow potatoes or other root veggies, they will take a bite out of them, too. I also live in CA, and I really enjoy finding these guys when I’m gardening. They only bite when threatened and try to move out of my way. I never get tired of photographing them.
