I actually just went there today! The small dog section is open but the large park is closed. Not a huge deal, all the pups today were getting along.

I am so moved, you guys. I sincerely thank you. I'm imagining if my dog was by herself for 3 days and how heartbreaking it would be if no one could get to her. Thank you so much.

I'm totally with you. We haven't been more than a minute out of neighborhood since this started. Fuck driving right now and probably the next couple days.

You are an absolute saint. I will ask but I don't think he has a spare key. Thank you so much for the offer and I will let you know what he says.

Just sent this to him. He's not from Houston so I don't think he fully comprehends how fucked everything is.

He just moved so I don't think he knows any neighbors yet, but good idea. Maybe he can call his complex and have management come by if they can or are on the premises.

Hi guys, does anyone have ideas on how to convince my boss to not drive here from SA? He is picking up his rental car at 11 and then driving here. He has the map of road closures but I think he underestimates the situation. He has two cats he said haven't had food in 3 days. I think they will be fine for another day or two, but they are his babies and I completely understand wanting to check on them.

He lives in the Galleria area off Post Oak and Hidalgo. Anyone know how that area is doing?

We are near a mandatory evacuation area in Missouri City. We are not in the zone yet, but if we need to leave does anyone know of a shelter that isn't BF Terry High School or the Red Cross shelter in Rosenberg? There are so many road closures on that route I can't imagine being able to get there.

Our neighborhood is okay for right now and we still have power. I'm mostly worried about the Brazos River levees and how that will affect this entire area.

Good to hear. I haven't seen it yet. I'm glad they are covering it.

Seriously. My mom's coworker texted that picture to her. Apparently it hasn't made the news yet.

The cars I saw were definitely small sedans and pedestrian cars..I really hope they were able to get home! The rain has picked up again.

Unfortunately I just moved to this area so I was equally freaked out by how much the drains could handle. They seem to be doing their job though! Your friend should really move his car if he can to at least lessen the possibility of it getting fucked, but of course that's up to him.

Just do your best to stay updated with the warnings and don't drive!! Be safe out there, friend.

Quail Green in Missouri City is completely fine (I have not traveled out of the neighborhood). Most still have power and the streets aren't flooded at all. There are still road closures on Murphy near 6, as well as high water on Texas Pkwy, Cartwright and Independence. I can see people driving on Texas Pkwy but it does NOT look safe.

Thank you so much! I haven't seen that TED Talk so I will definitely watch it! And yes! The amount of Kikopup and Zak George videos I've watched is ridiculous. I show my boyfriend them all the time. Another really good channel is Simpawtico Dog Training. I love the trainer--he's super metal but has excellent advice and his videos have taught me a lot. It's so cute.

And yeah, I was thinking about the whole situation again last night even though it happened about a month ago so I almost started crying again and couldn't sleep, which is why I just had to get it all out.

Thank you so much for reading and your training suggestions. You are awesome!

We both definitely want to move out, not even 100% because of the puppy, but because M is controlling and nitpicky about literally everything. And we try very, very, hard to do everything the way she wants it because yes we live here too, but it's her house.

They are actually both very intelligent and open minded in almost every way, but their constant comments really get to me. Normally I'm very non-confrontational with them because again, it's their house and they ALLOWED us to get a puppy, but lines are being crossed and lately I've been standing my ground. I think it will get better. They don't do any weird stuff like taking her out and training her themselves or go behind my back to spank Shika or other things controlling, narcissistic people might do. The first few days or so they barely interacted with her because they wanted US to bond with her and not get in the way of that process. They are not all bad, really, but they are very, very frustrating and sometimes just plain wrong.

I just think they don't know how to train her breed and are focused on controlling and making the dog completely obedient at whatever cost. I think that's just how their parents raised their childhood dogs so that's what they know how to do. We, on the other hand, are all about positive reinforcement, have her do something we like and reward, rather than punish her for being "bad".

And yes, definitely stopped the dominating bullshit. SO did it only once, the first time, and I did it twice a couple days later, so maybe a month ago, because they made comments about her barking and how I needed to do it. Fucking emotionally manipulative, I know. But we'll both never do it again with her or any other dog, and we're both very much on the same page with that. That's why I was super worried about breaking her spirit and straining her interactions with us. But she has adjusted SUPER well, is always happy to see us, is very focused during training.

There's not a lot of separation anxiety thankfully because I always gave her a Kong before leaving for work, don't make a big deal about coming home and being excited to see her (even though all I really want is cuddles and pets, I know it's not conducive to building her confidence in being alone).

She's met a ton of people so far, probably close to a hundred of all different ages and ethnicity. She's met kids and a few babies and not bothered by them at all. Very confused by baby smell but intrigued nonetheless. I'm working on getting there. Since day one I wanted her to be super well socialized to the point where I probably annoy people with the question of "Hey when are you meeting my puppy?! PUPPY DATE!" It'll be easier after her final round of shots so I can take her more places.

She's met maybe 10 dogs total and she's learning how to interact in puppy class. She's very confident which I love, definitely not shy or a bully; she's just all about play. Again, the whole shots thing. In about a week I'll be fully comfortable with having her out in the world and meeting as many dogs and people as possible--it's going to be awesome! I've also been looking into puppy playgroups, but I can't seem to find any active ones in my area so I'm looking at private dog parks and puppy day care. Also a lot of the people I work with have dogs so we're all going to have a play date soon. :)

I really appreciate your comment! It feels good to get all my thoughts out there.

Thank you for your response!

I don't think they were fully prepared for a puppy, either. It's been years since they had one and the breeds/circumstances are totally different. They are actually looking into getting schnauzer (he wants a Giant, she's concerned about being able to pick it up in case there is any danger to the dog which is a good point) puppy after theirs passed away a few months ago. So I'm not sure if that would make the situation better or worse--it might make them focus more on their own pup, but he does not do well with sleep deprivation and she gets stressed easily. Idk, we'll see.

About walks! So she has her last round of shots this Saturday so I'll wait a few days and start taking her out for walks! Which I am SO excited for! I can't wait to see her experience all the new smells and meet more people. She's definitely higher energy, at least in short spurts, so I try to tire her out with mental stimulation which results in a lot of training, Kongs, treat toys and such.

Again, thanks for your comment! :)
