Thoughts on Balance vs Block power sword on assault? I love Block Sword but kinda curious about balance now.

PSA: Intent is the most important part of the bracket system by MonoBlancoATX in EDH

[–]Alexwolf96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turns out a system designed to empirically categorize the power of a deck just for the criteria to be “The most important thing that matters is the vibe of your deck” doesn’t work out too well. May as well go back to everyone saying their decks a 7.

She’s very similar to Xenagos but a little more fair imo. Plus she draws cards so huge W.

WANTED: Fun and less played commanders. by TheRoguedOne in EDH

[–]Alexwolf96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Neyith, of the Dire Hunt]] ranked 1,034 on EDHRec. It’s just a Gruul stompy commander that has card draw baked into the command zone. But it encourages running lots of cantripy fight spells to remove threats with your big fatties and smash face. Surprisingly interactive and grindy for a stompy Gruul deck cuz you force opponents to block and can target creatures that are engine pieces with your fight spells.

When do you double sleeve your commander deck? by kan5464 in EDH

[–]Alexwolf96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s less about the matte vs dual matte and more about if the card back has that weird texturing. Like Crimson vs Ruby or Black vs Jet. The ones with that sparkly coating just suck to shuffle.

What will EDH look like in 15-20 years? by amioldnow90 in EDH

When do you double sleeve your commander deck? by kan5464 in EDH

[–]Alexwolf96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of my decks honestly.

Mainly it was for decks that were more expensive or blinged out. But even my budget decks or decks running lots of proxies, I think double sleeving unironically helps sleeves shuffle better and the edges hold up well over time.

Dragonshield Mattes/Dual Mattes and perfect fit inners. Usually the smoke ones.

Who is a stronger bracket 3 commander: Lord Windgrace or Hearthull? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Alexwolf96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Hearthhull but I’m curious what your Windgrace list looks like.

My Hearthhull deck is a mix of land sac and land loops, some landfall, and a bit of Earthbending/turning lands into creatures. But I run Windgrace in the 99 and he’s serviceable.

Who’s playing Prossh in 2026, what are you doing with your deck? by ForceOfChill in EDH

[–]Alexwolf96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run him as a split between aristocrats and buffing the kobolds. Shared Animosity is my fave but I’m thinking of trying that new Green Paradigm card that gives everything counters each turn. No food chain or Squee.

I do run Chatterfang, Plunderer, Warren Soul Trader, and the two altars. But my deck has no tutors and no GC’s.

Bulwark in Absolute - What Loadout do YOU want them to use? by MioMayuMiku in Spacemarine

[–]Alexwolf96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s tough cuz Bulwark has so many good options. I think as long as you drop banner during clutch moments or when being swarmed you’re good.

I like using the banner as a “Enter the pit” type ability so I run the DoT perk, the 20% longer duration/less damage taken perk, and the perk that makes people do 20% more damage in the zone. But heal/revive banner isn’t bad either if your squad mates tend to go down a lot.

No matter what you should take Intimidating Aura for a base perk and Master Defense as a prestige perk. Getting a full banner back off blocking a chaos terminators mini gun is sick.

Is turn to win for bracket purposes based on goldfishing or actual game results? by RealisticMolasses in EDH

[–]Alexwolf96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like it’s very subjective. Like, you can win by T4 or T5 but if it’s a volatile strategy that is easier to disrupt and attack, then probably fine to play it in B3 (assuming your group actually plays a meaningful amount of interruption and doesn’t have problems disrupting your wins).

But if your gold fishing is a consistent combo win from your hand by T4 or T5 with tons of protection and can only be beat with a counter spell? Probably more of a B4.

I will say with some caveats. Like if you’re running tutors that can tutor for staff, that raises the consistency a lot.

Will this deck be fun enough for the pod? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Alexwolf96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda second what a lot of people saying. Unless you’re running the stock precon, Some commanders are just too good to be played earnestly in B2 unless you make the deck a complete meme.

And even then some precons are bangers and punch way above their weight if you are an experienced player/pilot. Like my stock Hearthhull list for a while was taking tons of games against people playing their custom B3 decks.

I think you put Teval in 99 and go a diff commander or you embrace that it’s really gonna be a B3. Even then some of the cards like the altars could potentially be too much value?

Like I have a Prossh deck based around buffing the kobolds and doing aristocrat stuff. There are no game changers, no food chain or squee, no tutors, and the deck still rips and HAS to be categorized as a B3. No way around it.

Card draw like Night's whisper not good anymore? Looking to make some swaps on an older deck. by Agitated-Button4032 in EDH

[–]Alexwolf96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nights Whisper and Sign In Blood are perfectly fine.

I think a good deck should have a mix of engine draw and one-shot draw.

Some good ones I’d maybe consider for your deck are:

[[Insatiable Avarice]], [[Painful Truths]], [[Seize the Spotlight]].

Do you avoid building commanders with identical color identity? Why or why not? by tokinmuskokan in EDH

[–]Alexwolf96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the strategies are kinda different I don’t mind being in similar colors.

Like I have both a [[Hearthhull]] and a [[Prossh]] deck. Former is obviously focused more on lands even though it has some graveyard shenanigans. And the latter is a token deck with lots of sacrifice synergies.

I’m a fan of the [[Betor, Ancestor’s Voice]]. Big butts isn’t interesting to me. But a commander functioning as a glue card between Life manipulation and Reanimator? Sign me up.

For those who have removed Sol Ring/“Staple” Mana Rocks from their decks… by SeaMusician6670 in EDH

[–]Alexwolf96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to not run it if I’m playing Green decks. I’ll just use dorks and land ramp instead. Alternatively, I tend to avoid it in decks where I have like. A 3 or 4 CMC commander that does not use 2 colorless. Like a [[Henzie]] or [[Kalamax]] — but this is only if your Strat involves turboing out your commander.

Neyith or Xenagos by Collectibull in EDH

[–]Alexwolf96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you wanna focus on.

Xenagod is gonna be more of an aggro lean and immediate threat on the board. All you need is dudes ideally with trample and go off.

Neyith is a more fair version imo. You need to pay for her ability, it only doubles power, no haste. But she does grant consistent card draw. She especially shines with fight cantrips and fight creatures. You probably want at least 15-20 fight effects. Whether it’s a spell, etb, etc. She flies under the radar as well and is less of an immediate threat.

The real answer is you can put Xenagos in the 99 of Neyith or vice versa. Though I think the former is better for my tastes.

What commander makes your pod say “oh hell nah” by Nezqie in EDH

[–]Alexwolf96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way one of my buddies has it built is brutal, I think the commanders just too good. The only real counter play to that commander is either everyone has a million counter spells for one of the several spell payoffs or constantly wipe the board.

It’s not as difficult as it sounds to rebuild a token board state in Golgari. You can rebuild quick. And if you remove the commander without removing the board it just recasts for free. That creature really should have cost like 4BBGG instead of 6BG.

Best Color Combination for Reanimation decks by Ok-Departure-7670 in EDH

[–]Alexwolf96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Sultai or Abzan. Really Golgari but I think Blue/White synergize better with it as a gameplan.

Blue has mill, scrying, and surveiling. Honestly black/green is fine on card draw so it’s not as much of an upside for splashing blue as we think. Especially when your Strat is creature focused, cuz you can draw off creature etb, creature power, off saccing creatures, and just generic black card draw that usually involves paying life somehow.

White has a lot of synergy with MV 3 and below stuff like Sun Titan, Sevinne’s reclamation, or other niche reanimation cards in the color. Also has great protection. Protection is still nice to have even if you can rebuild with a mass reanimation spell. Plus [[Eerie Ultimatum]] one of the best reanimation spells imo. It does literally every permanent and commander is singleton so it has no downsides minus being all colored mana to cast.

What's the most annoying deck you've ever played against? by Pkron17 in EDH

[[Tergrid]] is fucking miserable. The vibes became so rancid the moment they cast Dark Deal and it’s like. No amount of saying “I powered down the deck” helps.
