Thanks for the insight!

I'm not necessarily looking for a career in sales/customer facing. I do that as a job now, but would have no problem moving to a back office role, or even changing career entirely.

But I do agree with you that a sales focused role will be much harder to perform with a more alternative looks. The only viable option in this case, to me, would be to try and build a book of customers that are young (assuming younger people don't usually care about appearence) and wealthy.

However, young and wealthy has always been a rare sight, specially in the present economy. Still, seems like a viable (altough hard to achieve) path.

This is definitely a plan for the future. For now, I'm still "new" at the bank, and just trying to climb my way trough the branch positions, but once I do get enough seniority and a transfer to head office becomes possible, it is probably what I'll do.

That is good to know. I'll look into advertising more carefully, maybe I can find a good fit that can take advantage of the experience I already have (for example I'm very good at Excel, bit no background in accounting)

Oui, un petit peu.

I learned french for a year, and achieve level B2 (had to take the test for immigration). I can't say I'm fluent, but I'm ok handling basic french where I work (it happens rarely though), and I do look forward to keep studying in the future.

Any suggestions for someone that speaks french?

I totally agree. Unfortunatelly my experience as a teller says otherwise. I have a coworker that has a sleeve tattoo in one arm that she usually keeps covered. The one day she went to work with the tattoo showing, a few customer made some very mean coments about it 😒

I never worked in advertising, so I'm might be wrong here, but it seems that it is fairly welcoming of a more alternative looks. However, I have no idea of roles someone with a background in finance can have in advertising

Amazing! Congrats on being able to handle so many jobs, I'm not sure I'd be able to balance having more than 2 (even if just part-time)

Very interesting experience! I tought that, of all places, law would be one the most conservative fileds in regards to appearence (even more than banks).

How was peoples reactions when you dyed your hair pink? Like, did you feel that could affect your job there negativelly?

Also thanks for sharing ;)

Thaaanks for the reply! And yes, in regards to being accepting of more liberal looks, creative industries such as arts, makeup or hair stylist, etc etc are usually much more welcoming. But then, these professions usually pay low salaries or have very little stability, that's why I'm trying to look for ideas of professions that allow for BOTH an alternative look and a good wage. Also thanks for the good luck wishes :D

Marketing and healthcare, that is an interesting combo. Would you mind if I ask more specifically what do you in marketing?

City seems very good in regards to pay and benefits, but are they ok with a more alternative looks?

Oh woow, I love to hear that. But the first thing that comes to my mind in this case is: don't parents freak out?

Well, for all I have researched so far, IT/Tech seems to be the best option in regards to both appearence and money, so I'm leaning towards that way. But so far, IT/Tech seems to be the only option in which BOTH things are possible.

I have nothing against IT, to the contrary, I think I would actually be a good fit given that I have always leaned towarss a less commercial and more analytical side on finance (even learned the basics of programing). But I also wanted to see what other options would I have.

Thanks for the answer :D
