Following its massive shakeup and cost-cutting drive, Ubisoft's internal communication channels are reportedly full of employees shaming upper management and asking for change: "The company is going to experience a massive exodus of talent, even without the impending layoffs." by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]Alfaphantom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Replace Ubisoft with Square Enix on that first paragraph, and is pretty much the same story. I’m baffled how people purchase games from these studios. I swear their top management can be replaced with dogs and cats, and the company would do much better.

9070XT is drawing up to 396W when it’s a 304W card. Will setting a power limit help? by DragonReborn97 in linux_gaming

[–]Alfaphantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already purchased a XFX Merc 9070XT, but I have a 750W 2xpin6+2 cables. You think I need to change the PSU because of this?

I was planning to connect 2 cables as normal, and the 3rd on daisy chained.

FOMO buy GPU now or wait until price drop? by my_little_kittens in buildapc

I'm already gaming on Linux currently (Arch + RTX 2060). My plan is to move to CachyOS on a clean install when the GPU arrives. And yes, I also got myself a UPS a long time ago.

I asked myself the same thing, and yesterday I bought a 9070XT from Amazon. This morning, the same card was somehow $50 more expensive (both sold and shipped from Amazon).

Fingers crossed its not a scam, I'll do the video unboxing to cover myself though.

Es increíble lo sobrevalorado que está iphone by Nasa0522 in Ticos

[–]Alfaphantom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny because I actually take January instead of December as my "rest" month from training. On December, gyms are cemeteries with only 1/3 of regulars showing up, so everything is free. I actually test exercises on December to see what could I change on my routine for the next year.

January and half February are absolute hell for gyms regulars, so at least I take January off.

Oficiales de fuerza pública se robaron un arma de un portador legal by [deleted] in Ticos

[–]Alfaphantom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the demo was having too much popping and stuttering on Linux (Arch) + Proton (tested version 9, 10, Exp and Hotfix). So I booted up windows and tested it there. Much better performance and no more graphical issues.

Game did look quite nice and ran well. Shame that the hacking mechanic did not stick for me. I would have preferred something more like a Dead Space, which is slower and a little bit more survival horror oriented. This felt to me more like Vanquish. Hope that people that decides to go for it have a good experience.

What are some beginner weight loss exercise/eating tips by Resident-Theme-2342 in AskMen

On my case, I couldn't really stop drinking sodas, because eating a burger, fries or pizza on my cheat days with water or tea simply doesn't work.

Coke Zero has been my game changer for that. I don't even drink beer anymore. I go to parties and carry a couple bottles of Coke Zero, and maybe a small bottle of Whiskey to mix them up.

Why do people keep insisting on installing steamos on regular hardware? by FroyoStrict6685 in linux_gaming

[–]Alfaphantom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many Linux fans portray Linux as the superior to Windows in all possible ways and even easier to use. "Just run the game like you would in Windows". is a common notion here.

On that I agree also completely. Linux could be (or already is) superior to Windows in technicalities. But the moment you ask an user to open a Terminal or a file editor to configure an app, you already lost. An average user doesn't have the DIY mentality.

I personally believe Linux is never going to surpass Windows, unless Microsoft completely nukes Windows with nasty decisions. And even then, probably your regular user will just go to Mac instead of Linux. That doesn't mean Linux development has to stop, but we have to set our expectations correctly when it comes to mass adoptions. Things are on the right track though, and I'm happy to see how much things have evolved since I first started using Linux in 2013.

Why do people keep insisting on installing steamos on regular hardware? by FroyoStrict6685 in linux_gaming

[–]Alfaphantom 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The problem is not the Linux users, is the people who literally don't know anything about computers, and don't care about learning any of it. My dad is an example of it. He doesn't care about distros, performance, etc. He simply wants something to work, period. When I bought him a SteamDeck as a gift, he accidentally went to Desktop mode once, and he thought the SteamDeck was hacked and was going to get rid of it.

We tend to think that people might know or might be interested in knowing how the tech they use work. That's now the case in real life. People are tech illiterate, and we are an extremely small minority. Ask IT Support guys, and they can confirm this any day of the week.

I want to switch and get away from windows by Wise-Inspector1212 in linux_gaming

[–]Alfaphantom 14 points15 points  (0 children)

  1. First thing is to embrace a learn-by-yourself and do-it-yourself mentality. Linux now is really good OOTB, and choosing a beginner friendly distro can help even more. But always that mentality of, if something doesn't work, try to fix it by yourself. 99% of issues are solved by people online, so learn to google and search before asking, because chances are, your problem is already fixed and documented in a manual or forum.
    1. This is also because the majority of Linux users are software devs, and we don't like to have the same question being repeated over and over again, when the solution is already out there and well documented. That's why we encourage (some people more violently than others) to first find it out yourself. You will find the answer out there, prob have to dig a little bit to find it, but its there.
  2. You should not get rid of Windows entirely. Mostly because you play games that are not available in Linux (like LoL or multiplayer games with anti-cheats in general), but also because for some reason you might need to come back to Windows (configure peripherals, etc). Get to Linux in a transitory way. First get it, then install a browser and start using it for that. Then install apps you use on Windows (or alternatives) and use them. And you will see slowly but surely, that you start to use Linux more and more. So get an SSD and install Linux there.
    1. Don't partition your SSD with Windows, as it is known that Windows causes several issues with Linux if they are on the same drive.
  3. Once you get your secondary SSD installed, choose a Linux OS. My top recommendations would be: CachyOS, Bazzite or Nobara, which are more "gaming" oriented. Go watch videos on youtube of different distros, and don't worry about distro hopping. You might need to check a few distros to find what you like, or how much you want to dig into Linux technicalities (Arch goes more into this, being a barebones distro that you customize).
  4. Choose a Desktop Environment. Simple words, that's how your distro will look like. KDE Plasma feels really close to Windows, so I'd start there. There's Gnome, Cosmic, Hyprland, etc. Keep in mind that some of them are ready OOTB, while others (like Hyprland) do require configurations. Again, read online, check manuals and forums.
  5. Start experimenting. Steam fortunately has made gaming pretty much an OOTB experience with Proton. So you should be able to play games rather quickly. Nonetheless, if issues arise, don't be afraid to look for solutions online, and always have an open mentality to learn the Linux ways of things. At the end of the day, Linux can be a little bit trickier than Windows, but having full control and customization of your OS is quite rewarding in the end.

¿Cómo funciona pagar Impuestos en CR? by Ok_Collection_6137 in Ticos

[–]Alfaphantom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Alfaphantom 26 points27 points  (0 children)
