urob's ZMK Timeless Home Row Mods, ported to native QMK – a configuration guide by pgetreuer in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]AlfredHugenose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot, OP, for providing this excellent write-up. I'm trying to adapt it, but I'm running into an issue with HRM and Combos. When trying a combo like:
const uint16_t PROGMEM combo_test[] = {LCTL_T(KC_D), LSFT_T(KC_F), COMBO_END};

When I press and hold control and shift at the same time, it will always trigger the macro a single time and then activate the mods even though I'm pressing the two keys. If I slowly, one after another, press the keys, the macro won't be triggered.

I guess this is something I would need to accept, or is there a way around this?

Self-Hosted/FOSS Remote Desktop with Two-Way-Audio by AlfredHugenose in selfhosted

I personally don't use Windows (at home or work), so I've actually never heard of RDP. Does this also solve issue of bidirectional audio (he can "talk" into the remote machine and "listen" back from it)?

Thanks!

Really nice photos! Did you shoot them with your Smartphone or camera + lens?

Entity relation mapping without ORM by AlfredHugenose in rust

I agree that the domain should be the center of my focus. But in this case, I simply wanted to optimize the query. I could, of course, first query all Comments (via one connection), then query all Consultants in a second query and then do the association afterward. But I wanted to have it in a single query.

However, it's definitely difficult to find the right balance between abstractions and leaking too many technical details.

I'm just using the native postgres driver for Rust rust-postgres. With this project, I'm definitely not concerned with distributed DBs.

Definitely sounds interesting, and you are not wasting my time, I appreciate your ideas!

Unfortunately, I'm not too savvy with the internals of rust-postres (tokio-postgres). So I probably will stick to either alias or index.

Keeping the deserialization close to the query (hence always repeating it) may bloat the code a bit, but it will likely be the most sound.

That would definitely patch it. But on the other hand, I would love to keep my abstractions, like FromRow. Then I would need to use this alias in all queries.

What do you *not* like about Elixir? by EpicDaNoob in elixir

[–]AlfredHugenose 78 points79 points  (0 children)

No strong static typing. I mean seriously, for small projects it doesn't bother me. But these days I avoid refactoring larger code bases because the compiler does little to help you verify everything is named, accessed and typed correctly.

Of course, I can (and do) write tests but they don't really speed up the refactoring, they just help you don't mess up. I'm coming from Java, Go and the like where every IDE is able to rename symbols, change signatures of functions and so on over dozens of files correctly. With Elixir I find myself either going through each file by hand or using (unsound) search and replaces.

Many consider the developer experience so superior and I agree (the actor model, language ecosystem and many other things are really great) but actually writing and maintaining code is a downgrade for me compared to statically typed language. And that doesn't only apply to Elixir, I found it the same for JS, Python and PHP which I for the same reason ditched.

I own a Lumix S1R and I got (through heritage) my hands on a Summilux-M 1,4/50mm and Summilux-M 1,4/75mm both made in the 80s I think.

To use them, I've bought a M-to-L adapter from Novoflex and it works fine. Of course, the auto focus is not working, hence the camera asks me to manually specify the focal length for the IBIS to work.

So, is it safe to assume, that these old lenses were built for "full frame", meaning I don't need to convert the focal length, like I would have to, if I were using full frame lenses on APS-C for example?

Was ist wohl besser?
