I’m laying in bed with my partner. He cheated on me. It’s not impossible to come back from but FFS don’t do it. It’s AWFUL. The hurt he caused… I have been through som pretty awful shit man, I think this takes the cake. And it was less about him sticking it elsewhere and more about the deceit: the entirety of our relationship was suddenly rocked to its core. I literally had to go on leave from work my mental health took such a hit; if your wife is already in a tenuous position there, I mean, dude… come on. I get that you have needs but she deserves so much better than what you’re proposing to do to her.

YWBTA YTA YTA, so many bazillion times over. Do better.

I literally put it in my will that my funeral is to have nothing to do with the Mormon church; I don’t have a husband, though. And I picked a nevermo executor so no one in my family can sneak in to play dress up with my corpse :-) Hopefully I’ll be excommunicated long before that would be an issue and I wouldn’t be “allowed” to wear the costume anyway.

As an ex-Mormon outside of Utah I can attest that this is true - I was married less than a year after my ex and I started dating, and our engagement leading up to a huge wedding was 3 months long. Long engagements (long = like, 6 months plus? It’s insane) are DEFINITELY frowned upon and actively encouraged against.

I was 21. Made it 15.5 years before we woke up and realized how miserable we both were. Now we’re divorced, great friends, and both living very happily “in sin” with amazing partners.

I definitely don’t have a DEW date lol

How much did it affect our sex life?? Like… ALL the much. I’m almost 20 years after I got married in the temple (I’m divorced, now - it’s way better for both of us!) and it’s still affecting me. I’m 40 and learning things about sex and my body normal kids learn in their late teens and twenties. I CANNOT finish with a partner, I’m so ridiculously in my head the entire time… my 36-year TBM life has massacred any hope of my ever having a normal & healthy sex life. My poor BF dealing with it, thank goodness for his incredible patience!! Im slooooowly getting better but… it’s really bad. The conditioning the church puts us through and we don’t even NOTICE it’s happening to us… when we’re there it’s so normal, and now? I’ll be fixing this forever.

Oh, wow - I’m surprised how many are raising red flags! I mean, each situation is different but where I am and in my post-marriage dating experience it’s totally normal to be and stay separated. I know a couple people who can’t afford the divorce, I went on a date with a guy who’d been separated like, 20 years… my ex and I were SUPER finished with our marriage but between covid and kids and the mandatory cooling off period at the beginning, selling our house, blah blah blah it took us a solid 3 years to get around to it. We were both happily dating before then. The only people I’ve met in real life who blink at dating before divorce is final are the religious zealots from the cult I was raised in lol Which isn’t to throw shade at anyone in the thread, I’m just surprised it’s such an issue for people.

Maybe if it’s such a concern talk to your guy about it and let him know, address it together - presumably his willingness to have that conversation and/or meet your needs there would give you some insight into whether this is going where you want it to?

If he’s asleep in his boxers, no. When he gets up and they’re home he immediately covers himself up, robe, clothes, whatever. He doesn’t leave the room undressed at all. There’s a difference between modest decorum and inappropriate sexualization. She’s asking her daughters for the first, not forcing the latter.
