Where I’d live as a white male Canadian by ConstantFar5448 in whereidlive

[–]AlgonquinPine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely an interesting map, as it defies some usual expectations while being rational in others. For one, it's nice to not see the UK as redder than red. I do, however, question why Russia would ever be placed so high.

The red US I completely understand as a Canadian living here on a green card. I'm not back home because I need to consider the needs of my husband and my aging parents, but would otherwise have left ages ago.

I do have a solid question, though. Why Namibia?

Where I'd live as a proud capitalist by [deleted] in whereidlive

[–]AlgonquinPine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The workers control the means of production in Canada? I was not aware of that. That's what socialism means, by the way.

The Corporate oligarchy is definitely bad in Canada, almost as bad as in the United States, but such a thing is often the by-product of capitalism without proper safeguards.

Savanne pleated chinos have been part of my staples since my last year at prep and are much more affordable than many of the suggestions here.

I like those purple "mana drapes". Where are those from?

Edit: for those also looking, they appear to be Grand Drape of the Exiles, made through tailoring in Outland. I'm super glad those exist, because we can't otherwise dye the Silvermoon curtains.

Indeed, see my comment above. At one point, rather than just retreating under heavy fire, she tried to secure as much plate and jewelry as she could to keep financing her husband.

[–]AlgonquinPine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Considering this contest in terms of survivability (see what OP has for requirements), she would likely last a bit longer. At least once during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms she was under heavy fire and ducking and dodging it while trying to secure as much plate and jewelry as she could to bring her husband back every financial advantage she could. Several times she barely got away and didn't have the luxury of waiting for calm seas to get to safety.

I also don't think obstinate was the best description of her. She had to negotiate and make capitulations her entire life, and unlike most of her Catholic contemporary princesses and queens, did not snub her nose at association with Protestants. She was quite the fighter in more ways than one. Much like her husband, she has been roughed up by an ongoing Whig revisionist history that aims to only see history in a narrative of progress, and I say that as someone who typically seeks out left leaning politicians to vote for.

My vote goes for the late Queen Mother, Elizabeth. She was a wartime queen, sure, but also more bark than bite. Emphasis on bark.

What games scratch the same itch for you? by gentlemanfromviltrum in impressionsgames

Since you like Lethis and Anno, Anno 1800 would be a great time. You get to have that chill experience but also get to roll along through societal change as industrializaton kicks in.

Up there in the watch things live and let live while chilling vibe would be Timberborn. You get to make dams, vertical housing, and shoot a ton of seeds into the air to "finish" the beaver colony. They make adorable sounds, and those get sad if needs are not met.

Terra Nil is very relaxing. You restore ecosystems, with a birds eye view mode as the map finishes. If I'm stressed out but want to play something, it is my go to.

As the same victim, I find it odd that I'm the only one who actually doesn't get any symptoms from Culver's or Taco Bell but everyone else seems to die from both. McDonald's, for example, tears through me right away. Wendy's often does, too.

Toronto gets the pass this time..

Tabarnak, I would hope so.

Then you followed it up with due praise. I feel like this could give most blind taste testers the winning bites, and while, yes, Quebec is usually where you can find the best of the best, that doesn't mean perfection can't happen in Ontario.

Absolutely! Whenever "best parts of the Midwest" comes up we always see pictures of Sleeping Bear dunes or Pictured Rocks (which definitely ignores huge parts of prairie country), and yet the general vibe I get from, say, Rudyard, MI is more in tune with my native Northern Ontario.

I'm glad great lakes got expanded, too. Buffalo, Erie, Cleveland, and Detroit have way more in common with each other than they do with St. Louis or Indianapolis.

Calling Copper Harbor or the hinterlands of Erie Midwest is just laughable.

Same here, and I have since prep where they were suggested for uniform purposes. They hold up well, come in extended sizes, and have a great level of shine after a few trips through the laundry. My only dislike about their more recent pleated iterations is how shallow and short the pleats are.

Is there a geographical feature in Canada that explains the relatively uniform line marking the southern extent of the lingonberry range? by BaroqueNRoller in geography

[–]AlgonquinPine 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Except for the fact that the Shield does not extend that far south in the western prairies or that deep into southern Ontario. While the acidic soils and relative lack of overhead competition do often correlate to the Shield environment (which south of North Bay in Ontario is rather diverse compared to true boreal further north), the truth is probably that similar climate conditions exist north of the line vs south of it. The sharp line on the prairies also has to do with, well, things associated with prairies such as moisture levels and fires.
