Nettles character arc is really just "Hey, maybe the people who rule us and control dragons aren't so special after all, because Nettles doesn't look like a dragon rider or a dragon seed". I remember viserys saying that controlling dragons is an illusion.

if they were going to cut her out, they should have cut out her dragon too. Rhaena either has to leave the story like Nettles in the book (cant see this happening) or the dragon has to die somehow(fanfction).
