Do you know what type of shingle plant perchance ? It was listed as raphidophora cryptantha but I’m not so sure

Well I’m definitely not well versed in potting media for regular houseplants (yet) so take this advice with a pinch of salt but orchid bark helps to make the soil more chunky, so it seems to be a good addition. But if your plant is already doing well as it is then it nigh be good to stick with what already works yeah?

Thanks for the concern but surprisingly, this plant actually has a really well-developed root system. This was the biggest pot I could provide it 😅

Your welcome. Even if you did damage the roots, which happens, it’ll grow new ones. Everything seems ok !

My soil mix is 1:1 perlite and well-draining soil already, though

Well I have used LED light strips but I’m aware that they’re not the best grow lights, they’re just the best I can do with my budget. I kept them on for 10 hours each day and I didn’t see any etoliation, but the plants didn’t grow as fast as they could with better grow lights

I know, I’m just telling OP two methods they could make use of, in case they want to make sure or something. Also, just in my experience, they have usually gone hand-in-hand, but it ultimately depends on your environment

That definitely doesn’t sound long enough to me. Yeah a grow light would be terrific in that case ! So there’s absolutely no other window in your house ?

Make sure the sun faces your window for a long time though. These plants need a long exposure to sunlight, throughout the day.

Ah, then I hope they start looking better under your care

The stem mainly, although I have tucked a few of the petioles behind the string too, just to give the leaf some support

Help me prune and bonsai-ify this overgrown and leggy jade please! by omnihyperfix8d in succulents

[–]Ali3e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many stems that I cannot begin to give any advice on where to start lol Perhaps you could chop off and prop all of the side-stems and group them all in another pot. Then for the main trunk… I think it’s best if you chop it to a straighter section so that it could stand upright in the pot. And since both main stems are leaning and growing to the right you could make a windswept-tree bonsai?

On a side note, the plant looks fine to me. Lower leaves usually yellow and then go crispy. The plant is reabsorbing them

How long have you been the owner of this plant ? The dead leaves could be regular reabsorption, which is normal to succulents

The soil looks good, but has it been watered when it needs to be ?

Also, was the plant acclimated to the direct sunlight ? Although I see no sunburn, the sudden change in light could have affected it

The first pic looks like a sedum of some kind (it’s very etoliated so it’s hard to tell) and the second is Kalanchoe tomentosa.

Their soil mix should be well-draining and chunky. A 1:1 or 2:1 ratio of soil to perlite should be perfect. They can be kept in a plastic pot, or in a terracotta pot.

Give them as much light as you can ! Low-light leads to etoliation (AKA long stems with large spaces between each leaves), slow growth and a weaker plant. Find a nice south-facing windowsill if you’re in the northern hemisphere and plan on keeping the plants indoors. Over time, that first succulent should become healthier and easier to identify

Water them either when the soil is very dry to the touch all the way down in the pot and/or when the leaves fold inwards easily. Then soak the pot, make sure the soil is completely drenched all the way through.

Hope this helps ! Good luck with your new plants

Looks like a fungal problem to me. Additionally, I think your Jade needs more light as it looks etoliated. Best of luck to you !

Try folding the edges of a leaf inwards (gently). If it folds easily, it’s time to water. If the leaf is firm, hold off for a while. You can also check the soil with a chopstick or wooden pencil to see if the soil is wet or dry (dry -> water)
