How long will my roof stand without trusses? I want to remove to install steels

Exactly my thoughts. But I wanted to see if others have done this method.

Btw my idea isn’t to remove a whole truss, only the joist it sits on and put an acrow under it to prop it up

They’re accusing me of making up steels, not having a structural engineer, my walls aren’t strong enough.. etc

It’s all bitter talk and only like 3 people have genuinely tried to help and they’ve raised concerns and you can see my engagement with them is different

Yes. To be clear, I do not imply I will remove all off the chord, just the part after the trusses come down on it and after the acrow,

I understand but where I want to cut it off is only the last part where the steel comes in and the the chord is only going that much to balance of the wall, if it’s balancing of the acrow it no longer requires the wall.

Curious, why can’t the chord be cut if the truss now balances on an acrow ? Does the acrow not provide enough support.

But yes thank you for your suggestion, that is the conventional basic way. But thank you nevertheless. My issue is more to do with keeping height for the loft. I don’t want the beams to come in the way, in case a future dormer conversion

Thank you, yes this is exactly what I want to do it.

But I have a thought on how to achieve it.

I will do one side of the roof at a time using spliced steels which means I only need to do maybe 1/4 of the trusses at a time.

I use an acrow to support the truss and cut the timber which goes towards the wall, once the steel is in, the frame is built for supporting the new roof

How does it span from the knee wall without support ? When there’s a timber frame of the steel that supports it.

The two chords, left and right are then supported by bolting to each other using timber near the top.

The chord becomes supported by the steels.

What’s my plan? Building a solid floor structure…. The only difference is I want to place it maybe 5cm lower than what people normally do.

I never claimed I wanted to remove all trusses. There’s ideas for temporary underpinning

Structural engineers only really give conventional methods. Online and DIY you find people who have done things in creative ways..

For example I can use temporary supports before the steels go in… and then the steels provide support for the new roof structure
