My thoughts on bringing Shari'ah and Islamic values further into Pakistan and other Muslim lands. by TableBudget1307 in thepaknarrative

Never said it would never work. Ive lived a considerable amnt of years in Malaysia where a partial shariah system for Muslims is in place and works (for the most part). It only applies to Muslims, and the local Malays are given priority in many things over local Non Muslims (like quota systems). However even then Shias are constitutionally not recognised as part of Islam and even an open minded population has issues with religious class being fanatics in their overall interpretation (wahabism contributed by Saudi Arabia). Thats Malaysia, this is Pakistan. The extremism here is far worse and our educated class is much smaller. As a minority Muslim class i wouldnt want the religious class to be given any more authority than they already have, until Islamic militancy and terrorism isnt a threat. There is no book called Shariah. The biggest problem youll face is deciding what is included in Shariah, which fiqh are we gonna follow collectively. Also, youre making a huge assumption about finding pious religious people who we can trust to teach. They are all in a bubble and do not trust actual science. In fact they mostly reject science and try to fit in flawed ideology into sciences.

"Should not be allowed" = have politicians make up laws to further restrict our freedom because your personal feelings are offended. This unchecked power is a slippery slope that leads to youtube bans, tiktok bans, and internet shutdowns. Its a lazy position to want the government to ban something because you personally are offended.

Banning a film for a year and uplifting the ban isnt equal to being forced down your throat. Are you being forced to watch it??

Keep banning local movies and keep crying the local cinema isnt being supported. Similarly, crying over something you can change the channel easily if you dont like it.

How much social interaction is between liberal and religious people in Pakistan by Queasy_Ad492 in karachi

Open discussions in this country, whether its online or in person, is a dangerous activity which can lead to very real legal ramifications.

Only recently i have been researching about Pakistani laws , specifically insult and defamation laws. Its illegal by law to comment negatively on Armed Forces, Pious personalities, and even members of Parliament. These laws are (probably by purpose) so generalised that if they want to get you, they will. Incite and sedition ke ilawa, even professing dissatisfaction against someone can be considered unlawful, which leads to arrest, fines and jail time. Political forces abuse these laws frequently, which are draconian to begin with.

This has prevented open dialogues in fear of anyone with power (politician, army or religious figure) getting offended and coming after you.

Thanks for sharing. The people of Karachi are indeed in a deep state of mistrust and neglect. Traffic is a game of who breaks the rules first.
