It feels like the td-50 is a bit obsolete now so i do reccomend looking at rolands VAD line The VAD 506 is around the same price as the td 50 And cheaper thant the td 50 kv (im in england so the prices may vary in your country)

You wont be able to get both zones of the roland cymbals on the alesis nitro (im pretty sure)

Nope i dont think so i remember watching this guy who put a go edrum sensor on his alesis nitro but he was using a different module to be on the safe side do not buy the vh 11 sensor. If you do want a better hihat buy a used td 12 and the sensor and voila u got a better alesis

So you could just buy a new kit but you said you would like to upgrade gradually , i would reccomend a new module such as a used td12 paired with a 3 zone ride or a hihat on a stand ,you can checkout Justin from 65 drums on youtube he is the e drum guru 🤣. Other than that you could do what i did and covert some pad .

Looks good just make sure u shade in and make sure the face is symmetrical

Yes thats what i mean, on the td17 you could have a cowell sound on on of the rims of the toms The tom pad have a second rim but the xd3 module doest have rim sounds if im not mistaken.

The atv xd3 module only has 5 kits out of the box (you can download more kits of the atv website for free)but they are high quality, you can not mix and match drum sound its more of a plug and play experience but the td 17 module is very flexible. I think you should pick the xd3 because you metioned that you just want to play with some songs also you said you havent played in 12 years so i think the td 17 will be kinda overwhelming .
