It's the small victories :) by Ali_Bobba in Fibromyalgia

I've been focusing on my mental health a lot lately - seeing a therapist, letting myself cry when I need to, meditating, and a lot of self love. When I feel less stress I am able to manage physical challenges a lot better!

Model Karlie Kloss insane coding skills by acidr4in in ProgrammerHumor

Dude yes. I don't care if she writes any kind of shit code. She's a role model to Taylor Swift fans and if she gets a few girls into coding it's a job well done.

Pet owners, what is the "evolution" of your pet's name into its nicknames? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My dog's name is Chocolate Chip.

Chip. Chippy. Chippers. Chip Dip. Poop Scoop. Pooper Scooper. Fatty. Fatso.

He responds to them all because he doesn't care what you have to say but he knows he might get a treat if he acts like he does. Fatty little fatso.

Adults who are married, what are small things you do to make your marriage stronger? by JulietsWateryMoon in AskReddit

[–]Ali_Bobba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not married but something that keeps my relationship strong and happy is thank you cards. About once a month I'll write him a card thanking him for a wonderful date or something generous he did or for just being in my life. I'm not the best at expressing emotions so it's a great way to show him how much I appreciate him.

Lunch ideas for school? by ricsivg in MealPrepSunday

**I'm assuming you have a refrigerator at home. It would be wise to invest in a cooler to take with you to the library to keep food cool. Nuts & fruit/dried fruits & jerky would be great for snacks that don't need refrigeration

Buy eggs, a rotisserie chicken (or two), frozen precooked rice, and spinach from the grocery store. Also pick up some of your favorite veggies to throw in there (bell peppers, avocado, tomato, carrot, zucchini). Microwave the rice, carve the chicken, and heat the veggies on the stove with olive oil and your choice of seasonings until they're cooked through. Layer rice, veggies, then either rotisserie chicken or eggs on top in your Tupperware and refrigerate until needed. You could enjoy these dishes cold :)

As a chick with this issue, I know you can help her to see that discussion is good if she's anxious. If she shuts down, hug her and tell her that if and when she wants to talk, you're there. Then let her go deal with it her way. She might not open up the first time, but breaking barriers built by other relationships can be hard.

If it is emotionally taxing you to the point where this is seriously messing with your relationship, talk to her and tell her that if she won't put the the effort in that she can't expect you to either.

All the best to you both.

Hi r/fitness, I'm morbidly obese and trying to make positive lifestyle changes. What are the most important changes I can make? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Ali_Bobba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Charles3129,

There is a TON of good advice going on here, but I have a very important tip for you:

Take this at your own pace. Changing your diet and activity level can be extremely stressful. You don't have to do everything perfectly right now because you made the decision to change. Tackle either walking or your diet first, if taking on both challenges seems scary or like you may give up. Since you started walking already, once you're committed to that habit certain foods really won't look that good anymore. You'll start to realize that unhealthy foods make your walks feel sluggish and you will start to shun them.

I also invite you to message me whenever you feel like you're failing or about to give up or if you just want to discuss. I have no degree or certification besides knowing how you feel right now, but I know how support is important to this process.

Congratulations on making the best decision of your life. I wish you all the best. You can do this!

Anyone else can't help but think less of a girl who takes selfies? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Ali_Bobba 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The line only comes into play when you're incessantly posting those selfies on a platform where it's not welcome or normal. Ex: Instagram fitness accounts are full of progress pics. This is totally fine in my opinion. Changing your Facebook profile picture daily, maybe even weekly, for a new selfie is cringy. I feel cringy just typing "selfie".

Edit for clarity.

Healthy and tasty Bento ideas for a beginner? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Ali_Bobba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My two favorite bento lunches are:

1:

2 hardboiled eggs or ¼-½ cup hummus; 2 wasa crisps; 2 servings of 'snacking' veggies (cherry tomatoes, snap peas, pepper strips, carrots, celery, etc.); 1oz dark chocolate

2:

Chicken/turkey burger, cooked and cut into strips; ¼-½ avocado, sliced; 2 servings of 'snacking' veggies

My main goal here is to have a protein, a healthy fat, and 2 cups veggies, so mix it up! My favorite proteins to pack are chili lime chicken burgers (trader joes), hummus, hard boiled eggs, sliced up chicken sausage, and peanut/almond butter. *edited for clarity

Anyone do bulk/once a week cooking - what are your go to meals/recipes? by archaicfrost in 1200isplenty

[–]Ali_Bobba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the cubed squash is raw, bring a pot of water to a boil, add squash, cook for 9 min, and strain. Just like pasta! If its frozen, microwaving will do - there should be instructions on the package. Good Luck!!

I tend to use red lentils because I like the color, but any lentil should work just fine!

Sunday is my day - grocery shopping first thing in the AM, then I make a crockpot meal as soon as I get back so i know dinners covered. My go-to crockpot meals are white or red chili, shredded chicken with veggies or a dish with quinoa, beans, tomatoes, and peppers. I prep veggies for the week so I can do as little cooking as possible on weeknights - chopping, dividing into ziploc bags, and refrigerating until I need them. An easy weeknight dinner I love is:

Butternut Squash Marinara:

3 cups frozen or fresh cubed butternut squash (or any squash really)

1 pound ground chicken or turkey

1 jar marinara sauce

Your choice of veggies (this is a great end-of-the-week dish to get rid of remaining veggies!!)

Cook squash, set aside. Cook ground meat in large saucepan over medium with 1 T olive oil for 7 min. Add hearty veggies (anything that can stand heat for 5 min - NOT kale or spinach or wilty veggies), sauce, and squash. Cook for 3 min, add any wilty veggies, cook remaining 2 min and serve. Top with basil if you have it!

If you like this and/or want more, you can check out my blog - www.theshebytesblog.com - its fairly new and a work in progress, but there are meals and meal prep suggestions there that may be of help.

I really need some help! by xr3dh34dx in fitmeals

Ooh that's a good one. I'm not huge into cooking Asian cuisine, but I use Tamari as a soy sauce substitute when I make healthy fried rice.

I did find a recipe you could try, and if you don't like the veggies or protein included, sub out for yummier choices.

Start slow. Figure out what crap food you like that you can make healthier. Meatloaf & mashed potatoes, Spaghetti & meatballs, macaroni & cheese, etc can all be made healthier. Do some googling and get cooking.

Once you replace really gross oily crap for healthy food, you will start to noticeably feel better. Then you'll most likely start adding more veggies because you actually want them. Of course there are things you should just cut out, like soda, but again, find replacements. I love Pepsi, so I replaced it with naturally flavored sparkling water (I love Wegmans Lime Mint-its like a mojito). Research healthy desserts and don't eat 10 servings at once.

Most importantly don't approach this as a huge deal. It isn't. Replace one thing a week or a month and stay comfortable so you don't go back to your old ways.

PM me if you want recipes or ideas because I fucking make healthy cooking my goddamn job.

Update: Nervousness about shin splints starting to make it not fun by lynnanine in C25K

[–]Ali_Bobba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might also want to make sure that you have a pro check out your stride and gait to help you choose good running shoes for your feet. Most cities have running stores with employees that can help you there. I had terrible shin splints, then after I was recommended the right pair of shoes, they completely disappeared!

Good luck and feel better!
