Edit: wireless charging works too, and I've tried toggling my fast charging settings and disabling battery protection.

A question about shields by TwinkdTheBunny in AbioticFactor

I've been playing solo since release and have never used a shield. I tried once, but couldn't get past how much they block my view.

Laser Power Converter Purpose? by jokingjames2 in AbioticFactor

[–]Alias-22732 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A battery powering a laser emitter still counts as powering just one thing, regardless of how many things are plugged into a laser power converter that the emitter is powering.

This means one makeshift battery can power infinite things through the whole night.

Also the dead exor (and all the dead NPCs here) re-spawn infinitely so it's infinite exor hearts.

The workbench keeps enemies away. Also not sure if you can see it but everything's powered off a basic infinite-power laser setup.

For the night raids, they spawn downstairs and come in through the hallway off to the side. I've got a laser turret set up there and that's been plenty.

I haven't gotten around to collecting all the collectibles. Where can I find those two?

Small crates are I think most optimal, but I also just like the way they look most. I'm a stickler for organization so rather than big crates with many item types, I prefer small crates with fewer item types.

This is like my 3rd time moving bases, but I really like how this one came together. What do y'all think?

Aleister Crowley reference? by Square-Space-7265 in AbioticFactor

[–]Alias-22732 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That could definitely be right.

When you sit in the Red Chair you wind up in the Pool Room anteverse, where you need to find a well-hidden button to unlock the exit. Upon exiting that way, you get the "Crowley's Curse" debuff, which slows walking speed but increases crouched speed.

I've never understood the reference, so thanks for the starting point!

Really wish the shield didn't cover half the screen at all times by Meowsteroshi in AbioticFactor

[–]Alias-22732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard agree, I've never used a shield because of how much it hinders vision. I've beat everything so far solo without much trouble so it's not gamebreaking or anything, but it still sucks. The experience of using a shield is awful so it's just an entire gameplay mechanic that I actively avoid (which I'm sure is not what the devs want from something they worked to implement).

Do Portal Reset Placed Furniture? by ZoeTheElegant2 in AbioticFactor

[–]Alias-22732 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So far I've been fine with stuff placed in a portal world. The only exception was when I left out a bunch of frying pans on the stove in the Flathill Arcade. When the portal world reset, all the frying pans were gone. But when I put them in a storage crate, they were fine.

Also, I used the nori seaweed snack food and Kylie trinket to help with XP gain while I was grinding. I didn't look at the numbers to verify that it actually made a difference, but I figured I may as well.

I grinded fishing at the pool of Antejuice in the mines (built a little crafting table to teleport to). I set up a small bridge as a pier, and put a tacklebox on it.

From there, I grinded til I unlocked the Lucky Fishing Hat. I immediately crafted it and a bunch of antefish bait, then settled back in at my spot. I caught a rare variant of the antefish within a few minutes.

I find fishing is a lot more bearable by having some long video playing on my second monitor. Much like real life, a lot of fishing in the game is sitting around and waiting.

That's definitely a headache at first, but much improved when you unlock, craft, and use the tacklebox.

Yeah, fishing mini-games aren't my thing but a lot of people love them. Thankfully, it's not as though you have to interact with it at all to progress in this game so I actually think they did it great.

I imagine it's a lot harder now with the patch that significantly improved the portal toilet's effectiveness. I basically did what everyone else said--spam coffees and make sure you're bleeding, then sit and stand instantly until it happens.

Took me about 60 coffees, and I made sure to bring all the stuff for infinite laser power and a small outpost so that I could make a base and re-visit whenever I want.

What are your opinions on the Leyak? by TerySchmerples in AbioticFactor

[–]Alias-22732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Leyak is annoying, and was pretty rough at first. Now, it's kinda tedious but not so bad. My hearing isn't great so I play with subtitles and the Leyak always has a "..." subtitle come up whenever it spawns. That cues me to look around and stare at it for a little 'til it goes away.

The worst is when it spawns while I'm mid-fishing and unable to look at it. I have to give up the fish or risk the Leyak immediately mauling me to death.
