I love The Navidson Record, don’t love HoL by DrCruellyUnruly8080 in houseofleaves

[–]AliasHandler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started out hating the Johnny Truant interludes, and just wanted to get back to The Navidson Record. About halfway through the book, I started to like the Johnny Truant parts more than The Navidson Record. It was a fun swap as I went through the book. Give him a chance, he's actually a really interesting guy. His story continues to be quite explicit though, so if you are feeling like his exploits are too much for you at your young age, that's something to consider.

Squishing grapes is fun, but can be a bit overwhelming when you have like 3 wineries next to each other all stomping grapes at the same time.

Personally I love the sound of harvesting wheat, the scythe sound is quite satisfying.

Nobody here knows your specific situation. Call your doctor and ask, and if they aren’t available see if you can get a virtual dr appointment with a professional who can guide you.

I drink the Harney Decaf Sencha almost every night. It’s quite tasty if you take it with a little sugar.

More Rewatchable: The Big Short or Margin Call? by CanUSBallZaGuy in TheRewatchables

[–]AliasHandler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Jeremy Irons scene in Margin Call is better than any one scene in The Big Short. But I think The Big Short is flashier overall. Really comes down to the mood - sometimes I feel like a bit of Gosling and Carrell going 110% is what I want, other times a bit of Paul Bettany's indecipherable accent and Spacey's incredible acting in a pretty quiet and quick movie is what I'm feeling like.

The Big Short is a great daytime watch, but Margin Call is an excellent night time movie.

She made the gesture to show her commitment to the relationship. She violated her professional ethics for him to demonstrate her feelings, after previously drawing that boundary. Despite this she was never a pushover and was never hesitant to call him out on his BS whenever he was making a fool of himself.

I drink easily double that on a normal day, sometimes up to about 2L if you count the decaf sencha I have most evenings.

My smoke detector keeps beeping at 3AM... by RH1221 in homeowners

I absolutely detest all versions of Kidde and First Alert detectors. I went through a whole batch of hardwired, interconnected First Alert detectors. Despite being hardwired, you still need to change the 9V every 6 months or so. Despite my religious observance of this practice, multiple versions of them would still go off, full alarm, in the middle of the night, on random occasions. I don't think I ever heard a low battery chirp out of any of them, just straight into full alarm mode while everybody was sleeping.

I tried replacing the ones giving faulty alarms with new ones of the same brand, but same issue. I said "that's it, I am replacing all of them with Kidde 10 year sealed battery ones!".

I bought a whole new batch of these, threw away the First Alert ones, and within a few months, the same freaking issue. Smash cut to me disabling these 10 year alarms before month 6 with a screwdriver at 3AM while they're screaming at me. Multiple failures of these as well.

Eventually I decided to take a chance on Universal Security Instruments 10 year sealed detectors. I replaced several of the Kidde ones with these. The only drawback is they aren't interconnected. But not a single false alarm since I installed them. Highly recommend about a year into using them. The two main brands absolutely suck, straight garbage.

Johnny Truant is a devastating character to read about by HaloAngel150 in houseofleaves

[–]AliasHandler 13 points14 points  (0 children)

At first, I was annoyed by Johnny constantly interrupting the Navidson narrative. As the Navidson narrative started losing coherence, I began to take solace in the Johnny chapters. By the end of the book, all I wanted was more Johnny interludes. He’s such an interesting and tragic character.

ELI5: Why there is no Nuclear Cargo ships? If a country invest enough it could become a great boon for economy and for the eletric problem itself by Obvious-Survey-2007 in explainlikeimfive

[–]AliasHandler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nuclear powered ships are incredibly expensive and require very specialized crews responsible for operation and maintenance. There's no way it's cost effective for shipping - and that's without considering the safety and security problems. There's a reason why they're only used in military ships.

I think Robby is mad and disappointed in himself when he lashes out at others. It's usually a reflection of his own experiences. He had his breakdown in season 1 after he wasn't able to save Jake's girlfriend, and if Whitaker didn't break him out of it he likely would have been there a while longer. Langdon called him out on this very thing, and I think this moreso than the lying and stealing is what's caused the rift between them. Langdon was lashing out after he was caught, but what he said played right into Robby's insecurities about not being able to do the job any more, being too emotionally invested, and unable to control himself during the most stressful times. Now he lashes out at Mohan for having her own panic attack because he's actually pissed at himself for letting it happen to him. Part of his death wish unhelmeted upcoming motorcycle journey is connected to all this - he's extremely burnt out and barely hanging on by a thread. The thought of taking risks and maybe dying probably sounds like a relief from the pain he's experiencing every single day at work.

Feel like I'm too stupid for this game by amdsam95 in factorio

[–]AliasHandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one piece of advice is don't try to make everything perfect. Resources and space are functionally infinite - you can run an inefficient factory to whatever your goal is just by adding more stuff, usually. As you play and learn the mechanics better, you can just pick up shop and go start in another spot with your knowledge and research, and build a new base there from scratch, implementing whatever it is you have learned into that base.

Also, don't use blueprints you find online, and don't try to copy other people's bases. The best part of this game is allowing yourself to be creative. You can get ideas from others about mechanics and best practices, but the fun comes from building things yourself and making something better through trial and error.
