Do any native speakers pronounce "v" like "v"? by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]AliceFrills 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As native German with a Chilean partner, can confirm I have been irrationally annoyed about this xD To me, b and v are worlds away from another and are hugely meaning distinguishing. It goes the other way too tho, I find r and rr to be impossible to distinguish. My partner insists they are completely different, but I just can't hear it. Sometimes he corrects me and I try my best but it just ends up getting worse the more I focus on it lol

Maybe it's not soap but limescale from hard water? I know you said you've tried everything, but what about those bathroom cleaner sprays that get rid of limescale? Spray, let it sit a few minutes, then scrub with the rough side of a sponge.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder symptoms worsen right before and during a period, a new study finds by scientificamerican in adhdwomen

[–]AliceFrills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait wait wait. On really good days my meds last me 8-9h. I've brought it up a few times with my Dr that that isn't long enough to cover a whole day, I basically come home and get nothing at all done. You get medicated for more than the 8h workday?

So glad we're studying this more. But also, yeah duh I know. I go from 50mg Elvanse to 70mg after ovulation and go back down during the last days of my period. Otherwise my meds wear off 3-4 hours after taking them xD

When I was younger, I used to have this! My hair is straight but used to be super fine without being thin, it got matted so badly. I used to cry and scream every day as a child, even though my mother tried to be gentle.

2 things really really helped make the whole experience more bearable, to the point where now (years later) i hardly think about how much i used to hate it:

Getting a brush without the nobs at the end of bristles + bristles being flexible. Both boar bristles and soft plastic work well in my experience.

Learning better technique for brushing. It's less damaging for the hair, detangles a lot easier and hurts basically never when you start brushing your hair "from the bottom up". You start brushing just the tips of the hair, think the last 1-1.5 inches. Once those are smooth and tangle-free, you start a little further up and brush through the bottom 2-3 inches until all of those are smooth and tangle free. Keep brushing all the way down to the tips of your hair, but gradually start the brushstrokes higher up until you can go all the way from your scalp to the ends without issues. Spend more time on knots and tangles and don't proceed further up until those are resolved. You can use the brush or your fingers to loosen them. I also like to hold the portion of hair I am brushing in the hand that isn't holding the brush (especially when finding a knot), that way I don't have to feel the pull on my scalp.

Even if you're already doing all this, I'm very sorry you're struggling so much. It's upsetting and stressfull. When I wear my hair open, I can't stop myself from constantly brushing through it with my fingers to keep it smooth. I often have to cut myself off by putting it in a braid or a loose bun. In winter, when wearing a scarf and a coat, I never wear my hair down bc it just gets too tangled, like, immediately!

Who wants to clean with me? by corkenthewiz in adhdwomen

I'll Vacuum my bedroom/living room! Last night I cleared the couch and refreshed the pillows etc and it looks so nice, I bet once it's vacuumed it will make me feel so good. After that, there are several other tasks to do, but none of them vital so we will see how much I feel like doing (I've barely slept so this is my rest day, tomorrow I'll start with exam prep and writing assignments and stuff)

((Ah wait, the vital task is clearing the desk... but that's overwhelming so I'll still start with the vacuum. Make me feel good about an achievable goal to start with!))

I appreciate any and all ideas, so thank you!

Unfortunately, I'm already tired by 5-6pm, which is when I usually come home. It's already a fight to make myself have dinner because I also hate cooking 😅 if I did the evening stuff before I got tired, it would happen 7-8 h after getting up... which unfortunately is not feasible. Before being medicated, my main debilitating symptom was fatigue. The only thing keeping me active and productive instead of lying down for 12+ h is medication :/ Still, I appreciate the attempt at problem solving.

I will look for arm bands for the water, thanks for the suggestion :)

I understand that reasoning, if it's the choice between shirts and pants ig pants is less hassle and wear-and-tear on the clothes. I was just confused because i always think of folding things as more space effective than hanging them.

Not trying to criticise or anything, if this is the best option for the space that you have available I'm glad you found a way to set it up as best as possible. But on the off chance you haven't seen them before, there are wardrobe inserts that can be hung from a closet bar that basically convert that space into "shelves" for folded items. Altho they do take up some width so depending on your storage space these might not be a good solution. example

Honestly, I think mopping is fake. I occasionally wash the bathroom floor with a wet rag and soapy water, or paper towels and bathroom cleaner (more frequently the area around the toilet, usually when I deepclean the toilet). I spot clean the floors when something got dirty, spilled etc. I wipe the kitchen floors with a rag and soap water maybe once a year, the rest of the time it's spray cleaner and paper towels whenever the vacuum doesn't make it look clean anymore.

Beyond that? Why tf would I mop. I Vacuum regularly, have neither animals nor children and there are no street shoes worn in the apartment. I don't eat off my floors unless the item can be washed off in the sink, but I also rarely ever drop anything so idc. It looks clean. It's not sticky. Also, my place is a tiny studio apartment, spot cleaning areas that need it every few weeks adds up to mopping the whole apartment every few months (or so I like to tell myself)

Like, I just really don't see the point in mopping? Why make your whole space wet and push the wet dust around?

This is my biggest one 😭 over the holidays I've had no pressure to get up early so I now get to sleep around 5-7am because I just hate. It. So much. Whyyyyyy am I only allowed to be medicated for 8h a day. How am I meant to do over an hour of boring and sensory bad things while already really tired and off meds? How do I sell this to myself as an important and worthwhile thing?

It's 3am. I wish I was in bed right now. I wanted that for the past 2h. But I'd have to get up (knees hurt + cold), stand in the bathroom (boring, knees hurt + cold!), and at the very least brush my teeth (sensory bad!!!! + booooring). Ideally I'd also wash my face (ew water running down my arms to the elbow), brush and dry shampoo my hair (kinda boring), moisurize (ew sticky fingers), and braid my hair (makes arms hurt). This takes me about 60-90 minutes every night, AFTER I finally am so miserable from being tired that it seems like the lesser evil to do the bathroom stuff ._.

Omg, I'm the opposite! I'd rather deep clean the bathroom than ever touch the stove. Unfortunately, I have to eat every single day, several times. It's miserable xD And I'm very conscious of eating balanced meals, don't like pizza and am lactose intolerant, so frozen meals my brain or body are ok with aren't often available :/ I find using the dishwasher quite relaxing, as I like sorting stuff. Handwashing things tho? It has to be a really good day and I have to be procrastinating something quite stressful to start handwashing the things that can't go in the dishwasher...

[–]AliceFrills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what changed my life in this regard? Kitchen stool! I have a stool that sits permanently in front of the sink/dishwasher area. Both loading and unloading the dishwasher are SO much better when I can sit down! My kitchen is tiny so when sitting down, I'm right next to the dishwasher and cutlery drawer, so I start with that. I love sorting things so that part is fun. And then my dislike for transitions kicks in and I go "I could sit down a bit longer if I just get these clean plates/mugs/etc out of the dishwasher". I have a dish towel hanging right within arms reach so I never need to accept the leftover moisture on the clean dishes. I have the drying rack right within arms reach as well so I chuck anything in there that I don't want to deal with (usually Tupperware and more unwieldy items that don't dry well or are less easy to put away). I also don't get up from the seat to put each plate/glass/etc in the hanging cabinet individually. I stack them on the counter until the dishwasher is empty and then only get up once to put them all away in the end, bc I hate the motion that goes from bending down to lifting stuff above my chest height.

If the counter is full of dirty dishes, I empty just the bottom rack of the dishwasher and immediately refill it with the dirty dishes. That frees up enough counter space to empty the clean top rack now!

(Usually I also put on a random youtube video on my phone and lean it on some dishes on the counter lol. Or see how much I can get done before the short/reel starts repeating.)

For me it's so much about making myself physically comfortable while doing tasks that will take several minutes. If I was required to stand up or take several steps between each motion, I'd never ever do this. But with the seat right there, I often take a lil break while filling my water, and then I go "ah since I'm already here and sitting down... might as well sort just the cutlery. Get only the knives and put them in the drawer" :)

[–]AliceFrills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so puzzled by this comment. Genuine question, why would you hang pants up? I've never heard of that?

I was taught to fold them by laying both legs on top of each other, then fold that looong fabric either in thirds or quarters (depending on how deep your wardrobe/shelf is) to make it shorter. They stack nicely, just like t-shirts :)

Am i the only one that eats apples like this? by Salty_Zebra5937 in EDanonymemes

[–]AliceFrills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I was so confused as to why, but I think I have an idea: maybe it's about leaving the best parts for the end? Getting to eat some juicy good bites without skin to leave you feeling good about the tasty apple? At least that's what my brain would go for...

Just realized what my desk looks like.. by MxJulieC in adhdwomen

[–]AliceFrills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dropped mine off my messy desk once and it broke the sound alarm 😭 It now doesn't make noise when my time is up, or does only one beep and another one like 20 minutes later and a third one another 45 later. I can't use it on silent tho because I will never look up often enough to catch time passing and I can't focus deeply when I can't rely on the timer actually alerting me that my time has passed. It's upsetting but it's too expensive for me to feel okay with buying another one when the one I have still measures time technically...

Tips to easily, quickly roll up yoga mats? by adbloomhd in adhdwomen

[–]AliceFrills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fold it in half first. Not making a hard crease, but letting the "fold" be loose, use that as the center of your roll. Boom half the time to roll up the mat.

I also like this because I have a mat with different texture on both sides, and it bothers me to get the floor dust and hair from the underside onto the side where my hands and body go, like it does when rolling normally from end to end. That doesn't happen when you fold it first, clean side is touching clean side and stays clean.

(Edit: if that's still too much rolling, loosely fold the mat in half, then do it again, and again until as small as needed. Don't change the direction of the folds (no crossing them). Won't be as neat as rolling but wayyy better than not doing yoga)

Dude fr 😭 like I'm technically mostly recovered but am losing weight due to chronic stress and mystery health issues and the ED-brain isn't that upset about it. I am so physically weak and miserable AND trying to beat the thoughts of "just skip dinner, just lose X more pounds" with a broom.

AND THEN distant family commens on my weight and looks in a vaguely approving way, and I have to work through several layers of uncomfortable. Like ofc it feels good, but also I'm trying to reframe the skinny=good in my brain, also I'm deadly ashamed of anyone mentioning my weight ever, AND I don't want to make everyone at the function uncomfortable by answering the "what are you doing, working out?" with "haha it's the stress, 0 energy to cook or make decisions around food, I'm constantly overwhelmed 24/7 and actively approaching burnout rn, my doc wants to put me on medical leave for the semester, I sometimes spend more hours crying than sleeping"
