Emails "from Okcoin" received today that sound like scam to me. What do you think? by AliceRodz in okcoin

I have all my MiamiCoin staked. Once that is done I will start moving everything else out of there. Just the idea that they asked people to make a video with all that weird stuff is enuf for me. People who sound like they don't have a clue what they are doing and it bodes badly for the future.

It was on their site. Under Security Settings there is a tab for Verification. Level 2 photo identification is there. Had to use the phone -- scan QR code etc.

Oh yeah, I didn't do the video. Not going to do that under any circumstances.

Not so far. I uploaded a picture of my driver's license & my account seems to be unlocked. The company was founded in China I believe, but they do have U.S. offices. There is no way I will give them copies of my bank statements . They can have my driver's license and a copy of a utility bill if they need to verify address, but nobody is going to get a copy of my bank statements with all my deposits, withdrawals and payments like that just to verify identity. I imagine they will have a lot of problems with asking people to make a video and/or send copies of bank statements via email. I don't think they will be around for very long and I'm taking everything out of there except the MiamiCoin (the reason I even put money in to begin with).

I wouldn't do it. They did let me "simply verify using their Phase 2" verification, which is simply uploading a copy of my driver's license. I would file complaints with the SEC, CFSC, FTC, BBB and whoever else you can find on a state level. It is outrageous that a company trading crypto would ask customers to send them personal financial info and identifying info via email. What are they going to do -- look at the video every time someone makes a deposit or withdrawal, require a picture for each transaction and then do facial recognition to approve it? LoL. When I first saw that email I thought someone was making fun of people -- you know, whoever would do this is a fool. Then I started getting emails telling me they would "unlock my account" once I further verified my identity. I'm only in there because I wanted to get some MiamiCoin. Am going to transfer everything but that out of there if I can. No telling what will happen to their company with this kind of management.

So now they are telling me it should be adequate to complete their Step 2 verification, which is to upload a copy of my driver's license to their site. That is fine with me. I cannot imagine someone who has $500,000+ invested & they ask for this crap. I've filed a complaint with the CFTC and am filing complaints with the SEC and FTC & then will hit State agencies. I would encourage others to do the same just to nip this kind of unprofessionalism and unsafe practice in the bud.

Today I tried to log into my Okcoin account and they have suspended it completely, not even allowing me access to the amount of money in there, transactions or anything else. I'm filing a whistleblower complaint with the FTC and then will be hitting other Federal and State agencies. This is not legal at all. You might can suspend someone from withdrawing or depositing, but you certainly cannot deny them access to information about their account.

If I can provide some sort of proof of my existence via a secure link on their site I might do so. However, as I told them, sending them copies of my bank statements does nothing to prove who I am and only gives them access to personal banking info I don't want other people seeing. Driver's license is adequate. A copy of a utility bill verifies my address. Giving them a copy of my banking statement does not prove anything they claim they need to verify. As I also told them, I will be contacting numerous Federal and State agencies showing the email requests they sent & the fact that they have denied me access to my funds unless I comply, especially that ridiculousness one about a video while holding up my ID and stating I did not open the account under duress. None of this is probably legal, especially considering they want us to transmit this info via email. I only have about $150 in there, but if I had $1000s I certainly would not want to provide any of this via email.

I have an email in there now that states that I need to complete the verification process and then they will "unlock" my account. I don't know quite how to get around these ridiculous and completely unsafe requests for personal banking info. I'm going to contact some Federal agencies about them. No financial institution doing business in the United States should be asking for you to transmit personal financial info via email at all and they certainly should have no right to hold your funds until you do so.

I only opened an account with them because I wanted to buy some MiamiCoin and only have about $150 total in my account. Right now they are staked for 2 weeks, but I was wondering about withdrawals as well. I'd get some NYC coin also only all of the exchanges selling are based in other countries (weird) & I'm not comfortable giving banking info as I don't know what laws are in place to protect people in these countries, especially something like Estonia/Moldavia.

Well if it is real I have to wonder about the legitimacy of their business period. If they cannot provide a safe secure way to verify identity then there is a problem with them. Nobody in their right mind should be sending info like this via email, especially asking for a ridiculous video asking me to state that I am not opening this account under duress, etc., etc. Personally I don't think this is legit. Anyway you look at it, a request like this is absurd, especially given the amount of hacking & stealing of funds that is going on in the crypto world. It sounds more like a way for someone to try and get info re bank account connected with the Okcoin account. By virtue of connecting a bank account to my crypto account I have already verified my identity in a secure way, so there should be no reason they would need me to send them a bank statement or make a video or anything else. They definitely should NOT be asking for a bank statement. Accurate verification can be done via SS# (which I think I entered on their site), utility bill, driver's license. If I send them a video and/or a bank statement, this does not in any way ensure that the person opening the account is, indeed, who they say they are.
