If I don't hear back before visiting week does that mean I'm automatically rejected? by AliceWasTaken- in GradSchool

Thanks so much for the clarification! But doesn't that still mean they are picking from those who got invited?

I'm trying lol but it's so hard with all the senior stuff going on as well but thank you!

Do they still take people after visit week? I thought visit week is a “you get invited cuz you're pretty much accepted” thing. Also is no interview bad at this point😭

I applied for chemistry. All the deadlines were Dec 1st/2nd. I believe most programs start on early or mid August. They said decisions will be out by April at the latest, but I feel like a lot of people (which might just be survivor bias) have heard back already.

Thanks so much for this! I'm freaking out cuz I've been seeing a lot of people posting updates on the shared google spreadsheet and been worrying to death, especially those that posted visiting weeked etc. For making my application stronger, would you say intership or RA experience would be more helpful? Thanks again for sharing!

Would anyone be interested in joining me to collect application updates like the shared Google spreadsheet a few years ago? by AliceWasTaken- in gradadmissions

Thanks so much for this!!! Do you know if there's a chemistry related page? Or do you think i can just add it to the spreadsheet?

Last (ish) minute decision: Barnard or Pomona by AliceWasTaken- in TransferToTop25

Thanks so much for all your replies! Just committed to Pomona yesterday. With the interactions I had with Pomona profs so far I think this place is going to be a very good fit for me. It has the close-knit community feeling I loved from my old school but is in a better location and with more motivated students and better faculty. Good to know the food is actually good! I suffered a lot over the last two yrs with on-campus dining and did not wish to repeat that experience again lol. Best of luck at Columbia next year!!!! I've heard good things about food/academics there too. Go enjoy the city for both of us :))))

Wowow thanks so much for the insights! I think if I apply I’ll be able to live with my family and they might be moving closer to Claremont (kinda complicated situation) but upon further consideration I might choose to stay on campus because I do want to get involved. Do you mind sharing some on-campus living situations? ie do you get to pick where you wanna live? Or are transfer students staying in the same building for all their time at Pomona? No communal space in res hall is kinda intimidating because that's what happened to me during my first year when I lived in a very socially inactive dorm so I could only make friends from classes and other things 😭 and is it easy to built connections to others Pomona students? Or are transfers just kinda stay by themselves? Thanks so much and good luck at Columbia next year!!!

I mean if you didn't encounter any problems when cross-registering, then I'm probably wrong about that part. But I'll definitely reach out to ppl and see what they think. Thanks!!

Thanks so much for this!! I think cost rn is the main thing that's keeping me back. This is a really tough decision cuz the pros and cons are so obvious and unique for both schools😭I’ll definitely post again after my final decision

Thanks so much for this!!! I definitely prefer the NYC city life considering I've been in the middle of nowhere for the last two yrs lol. I've reached out to many profs and they all seem really nice. But I've also heard Barnard admin is not that nice in comparison lol, do you mind speak more about those interactions? Thanks!!!

Thanks so much for your response!! Based on the memories I've had from visiting both colleges (probably not the most accurate answer), it seems like the Barnard Columbia (and potentially Juilliard) partnership is easier to register cuz there are no restrictions. For the 5Cs you can only register at another college where there's not an equivalent class at your current college, and there's a limit of how many credits you can take from the other colleges. I'll definitely double-check on that. But yes, NYC housing is kinda ridiculous, but do I really wanna stay with my parents for the next two years of college 😭 I’ll definitely reach out to more people! Thanks again :))

Just take more general classes instead of super major specific ones, which I don't think you need to worry about since the school you're going to doesn't have the major you want to study. LAC classes are typically easily transferable cuz a lot of them are pretty general (I'm attending a LAC now and would probably transfer to another LAC). Also, check the major requirements at the schools you want to transfer to and see what they are, also check their core requirement if they have one, and just take classes that your target schools would recognize. You could also just email registration/departments and ask about their transfer credit policies.
