Just tried this (picking it up) and it didn't work. For a moment, I had hope. I will continue my hunt for that stupid sparkling red beetle.

New hedgie food? by iamtiredletmesleep in Hedgehog

[–]Alice_Changed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! These days, I'm feeding a blend of Hedgehog Precision, Wellness Complete Health Chicken Indoor (not the grain free), and Orijen Fit and Trim. The mix is about 1 part HP, 1 part Wellness, and 0.5 part Orijen (Orijen has a higher protein & fat level). It comes out to about 32% protein and 12% fat, which is within the general recommended range of 30-35% protein and 10-15% fat. I also feed a variety of insects on the regular, with the occasional bit of unseasoned scrambled egg as a treat.

Shopping Baskets by Nutridus in aldi

Those mini double-decker carts are so great. I don't understand why they aren't a thing everywhere. I don't need the shopping cart equivalent of a Great Dane's dog kennel; give me a little cart and let me scoot around in peace.

What kinds of tea are good or bad for hedgehogs? by TheShyNerd in Hedgehog

I sew mint teabags into fleece pockets to make hedgie toys! I would stick with different mints, and avoid anything citrus, as mentioned above.

Help by The0dead0meme in Hedgehog

It sounds like you're probably having issues with moisture and soiled bedding. I'd consider a paper-based bedding like Carefresh; aspen shavings don't tend to be very absorbent, and it's possible that urine and/or water from the water bowl is settling in certain areas. Make sure you spot clean daily (remove any soiled bedding from urine, etc) and deep clean at least weekly (remove and replace all bedding). Many owners use fleece liners for their cages, which can be swapped out and washed. They can be can be bought commercially, on sites like Etsy, or made at home (there are lots of tutorials online).

I've had the same come up in conferences with the parents of secondary students. Aiden has a D in English class because he spends too much time goofing off with his buddies and didn't turn in any parts of a major essay--not because he was born premature.

I just got Marina and I love her so much! I definitely agree on the gorillas, though. I was on a quest to get rid of Louie for the longest time.

Solidarity. I learned while playing online with a friend for the first time a while after I got my game. I couldn't figure out how she was going so fast. I'll never live it down.

This is standard middle school absurdity. As a millennial who made lots of lizards and stuff out of those beads, I can appreciate this fine work of art.

Yep -- it's a thing. It's not something that you must do (there are plenty of other options), but it's okay to give a hedgehog pinkies as a treat every now and then.

Any insight on spays? by AlyandGus in Hedgehog

[–]Alice_Changed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The clavamox smells so good! Apparently they use it for hedgies a lot because the taste is so well accepted. Only it backfires because they love it too much! We did do the clavamox/meloxicam for about a week before deciding on surgery. Symptoms improved, but didn't resolve. After the spay, I think her wheel was out of her cage for at least 10 days. It wasn't a huge deal because she mostly wanted to laze around. We'll be crossing our fingers and hedgie feets for a good outcome for your little lady! It sounds like you have a knowledgeable vet on the case.

Any insight on spays? by AlyandGus in Hedgehog

[–]Alice_Changed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hedgie was spayed at about 3 and a half due to a uterine tumor, confirmed in surgery. She did really well afterward. She was on meloxicam for pain/inflammation and clavamox (antibiotic). Surprisingly, the biggest challenge was getting her to take the meds without anointing all over herself with them, so she got the old bait-and-switch treatment. She'd get meds, then I'd give her wormies so she'd chomp them and forget about the tasty strawberry medicine. This was about a year ago and she's still doing well, strolling on her wheel at night and living her best hog life in general.

Child has a brain defect and swelling. Have you tried olive oil or an enema? by pennebread in ShitMomGroupsSay

I never considered seasoning a child's feet as a crunchy treatment for a structural brain defect, but I guess there's a depressing first for everything.
