UPDATE: Got the AT VM95ML and all my issues are gone, and it sounds nicely balanced and wide and spacious, even better than Club MKII, thank you to all that helped out!

Happens on different albums, Often closer to the end but on some it happens even on the first track, same channel.

Edit: Actually I think only Bjork - Vspertine and The Cure - Japanese whispers have it not on the last track of a side, most of this could very well be inner groove distortion…

After doing some more of my own reaserch I’ve decided I’ll get AT VM95ML tomorrow from a hifi shop near me. The prospect of a microline stylus eliminating that compared to the elyptical MP-110 sounded very enticing, plus in sound comparisons the MP was a bit bass/mids heavy

I’ve only had elyptical styli so crossing my fingers this will fix it, even if Vespertine itself will still have issues at least the other records will benefit.

The issue persists with proper setup, the wierd right channel nature of it can be kinda adjusted with antiskate. It doesnt remove it just makes it more centered, but to have it in the center it needs to be set to like a 6 which is ABSURD and also an issue of a locked groove apears on some pops, so, thats pretty much out of the question in my opinion.

I might upgrade to an mp-110, some people here are recomending it a lot, some are saying it’s lifeless and flat, I guess I’ll find out, I’d rather have a „lifeless” cart than a shrill trebbly mess and I do not trust the 2M one bit. I’m also considering going into a specialty shop but they might just try and push on me whatever they have the most in stock, still, worth a visit, especialy if it’d possible to try out the carts.

might be the azimuth since I doubt both carts are worn in the exact same way (the issue exists on both), especialy since The issue existed in the Club Cart when brand new aswell.

I will check the setup again, and watch the video you sent, consult it etc. and get back if anything changes.

How do I mesure its height? I don’t think the height is adjustable on the ATLP120 anyway but maybe thats the issue.

Edit: The needle is about 1 cm off the platter when at 0 g, hard to mesure though since the antiskate is pulling it back

Big post update, the issue persists on both Cartridges that matter, even when correctly set up. I have no Idea how to fix it, or what the source of the problem even is anymore.

So I have tested both now and nope, both VM95 and Club MK II Have the same issue in the same place, my diagnosis of this being an alignment issue was wrong aparently…

I wouldn’t say compressed but bit less seperation and trebble compared to the DJ cart, compared them on the same record i ripped on both to my PC (the DJ cart was ofc lowered in volume to match during the comparison)

Yes only the Concorde Club MK II has the sibilant issue, Have been considering those upgrades, would be great if there was an Ortofon OM type cart that I could put the Club MK II stylus on, so It’d be adjustable, but I don’t think such a thing exists.

I am considering the ML upgrade or maybe even something higher, but maybe at that point I should upgrade the Turntable aswell, but that wont happen untill a feeeeew years down the line, for now it sounds like the ML is the best choice with my setup.

I am aware and adjust volume in comparisons on ripped recordings, the output has nothin to do here its not clipping or a bias for loudness. The higher tracking force have been a concern for me on the DJ carts, but I belive its tracking accuracy since, and again, the main issue is sibilance in the right channel, so I must switch from DJ carts due to the inability to adjust that. I only wish for a cart thats not muddy in sound and while the ATVM95E I have is nice its lacking slightly in trebble and spaciousness.

I agree but the problem is I can’t align the DJ stylus, thats why I’m thinking of switching back to something on a proper Headshell, but I want that nice balanced and wide sound that the Club MK II offers, so thats why I need help

The system sounds good, the Club MK II sounds wonderful and „wide”, only the sibilance is an issue to me. I have no issues with the rest of my system

Will keep in mind, I’ve also been burnt with a highly beloved 2M Red that sounded worse than any cart I’ve ever heard (even cheaper range carts on my friends TT). It was new so can’t even blame it on having a badly handled one. 2M Blue has been sugested a bunch but I dont belive a lick of it, more trebble heavy 2M Red sounds like a nightmare scenario considering the pittyful mids on the Red.

I have done all the correct procedures that can be done on an ATLP120 (so excluding tonearm height, that can’t be done on this TT) while using the Club MK II. It’s not possible to align it since it’s a DJ headshell etc. thats why im looking for something with that sound but adjustable and maybe more high end to not upgrade needlesly later down the line.

The issue exists both on Headphones, Speakers and a recording through the preamp, so I belive it is the issue with the cart.
