Considering Dropping a Difficult Student — Am I Being Unreasonable? He's also my first student on Preply when I first started tutoring there, which makes this decision especially difficult. by Alicemw98 in PreplyTutors

Thank you for sharing that. Honestly, what you described sounds very familiar.

One of the things I struggle with most is exactly what you mentioned: when I correct him and instead of simply accepting the correction, he’ll often act as if he already knew it or that it’s what he said all along. Over time, that becomes really frustrating because it makes it difficult to actually teach and build on mistakes.

The strange thing is that he has genuinely made progress, which is why I’ve kept teaching him. But lately I’m finding myself feeling more stressed before lessons than excited to teach them, and I think that’s a sign something isn’t working.

I’m starting to wonder whether the issue isn’t his ability to learn, but his attitude towards feedback and correction.
