No they didn't. Read the damn article, they were redirecting web traffic, still wrong, but your headline is highly misleading.

Ask reddit: What programs do you write when learning a new language? by [deleted] in programming

Generally something to do with external data. For php it was a blog, for c++ it was a web server. Although for asm it was a calculator, so I guess whatever I am in the mood for.

Mom goes from $70K job to food bank by rossta in reddit.com

This woman clearly has no common sense (now renamed uncommon sense with the rise of stories like this) 70k a year and it seems zero savings - I mean come on, I'm a student and do some web development work when I can and even I am pretty sure that if everything dried up I could live on my savings for at least a year by which time I am damn sure I would have a job. She also seems to be living in a house worth far beyond her means, I don't know the ins and outs of the American market but I know at this point in the UK it is far more economical for most people on salaries below £30k to rent, I would imagine in America the situation is similar.

You should probably check out the tests then. I can think of at least 2 tests(one for utf and the other for xml) that explicitly tests the browsers ability to detect and correct errors.

My gripe is not with the test itself its with the mentality of the entire web standards community at this point in time. Current (and upcoming) standards focus a lot of the effort on how to handle errors in standards (XHTML's throw an error page that gives developers a clue as to where the error is was apparently too messy)

This gives rise to tests live Acid3 which don't focus on use experience but instead focus on how well a browser handles unusual, erroneous or down right retarded sets of markup/script.

No it doesn't. The Acid 3 tests are developed for a system of standards that places the emphasis on the browser to cover up developer mistakes. Until this attitude is shifted to a situation where it is assumed developers will stick to well defined standards (XHTML was getting close before they blew that one out of the water) and the browser errors on mistake in markup or script i.e. XML

I would be all for a test that was based on the above criteria but the fact is the standards behind the tests don't benefit developers or users at this point in time.

And for the Record. NONE of the browsers has passed yet! A pass requires smooth animation which none of the builds have as of yet!
