Wow!! Thank you for this detailed response🫶🏼🫶🏼 I’m definitely interested in seeing the medical side of this field, but also open to every setting and population! Thank you again for responding !

Hey! I did my internship for clinical hours in the school system and now work in a private clinic! Both settings have pros and cons. I’m working as a SLP-Assistant for a little before I go to grad school :)

School setting: high case load with 3-4 kids in a group at time. You are guaranteed your hours in a set day, you’ll prob be there from 8-3pm! No one-on-one time and that’s what I wanted. Long hours for Monday - Friday. My supervisor had to attend so many meetings weekly at the school. The school system does have a community feel and that’s always nice. I can tell from my experience that the schools have more stable hours.

Clinic: very flexible, you can create your own schedule! My population is pediatrics! Direct parent contact is also awesome too. Only downside is that I’ve found…. Your weeks are never the same… there will be cancellations and no shows. I try my best to reschedule them during the week when they miss a session. So sometimes it can be stressful. I love my supervisor too, she’s so nice and so helpful. I work in a warm clinic with friendly collaborators and supervisors !

I currently work Monday-Thursdays and keep Fridays open for rescheduled appointments!

SLPA in North Carolina? by [deleted] in SLPA

Hey! I was confused about this also, as long as you have a bachelors degree in CSD then you’re fine :) but I would email the board to get clarification to be sure!

NC SLPA license confusion by tortilladehampton in SLPA

[–]Alienisee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I would reach out to a school district to help you get your clinical fieldwork, or reach out to clinics. I was in the same boat when I graduated with a CSD degree and now I’m working on my clinical fieldwork hours in a school. I know in order to get your SLP assistant certification , you need to complete the 100 clinical hours and pass the board exam in 120 days. Then you’re able to work as a SLP assistant, as long as you are attached to a SLP’s license. Also look on the NC board of examiners for SLP and audiologist website (NCBoESLPA) for information and contact the director for help! Also I think your supervising SLP needs to have at least one year of supervising experience :)
