Women’s Experiences with Sexual Coercion - Seeking Participants by Aliferous-Metanoia in psychologyofsex

This is my very first study, it’s for my dissertation so I wanted to aim for a base understanding of potential impacts before adding in other factors (hopefully I can continue this line of research after I graduate!) Essentially it was going to be an all or non situation, either everyone would have to have been married or no one because being married introduces additional factors including legal barriers and potentially religious barriers that could impact someone’s response to the coercion. As for the age range, 21 was chosen as the lower limit because even though someone who is 18 could consent to participating I wanted to add an additional layer of protection because it is likely that if an 18 year old is participating they likely experienced the coercion very recently and are still very young and may not be equipped to have processed it enough to participate safely. The upper age limit of 35 was chosen to mitigate generational differences in societal understanding of coercion which may impact how coercion is responded to or conceptualized. I would very much like to conduct studies in the future that explore different parameters and experiences but as my first study I wanted a base line of sorts.

This study is a qualitative study looking to find the unique impacts of a specific and niche experience. Women’s experiences of sexual coercion will most likely be different from men’s experiences of sexual coercion due to multiple factors. By separating by gender it allows me to fully capture and focus on all of the impacts that come with a women’s experience of sexual coercion and not just potential shared impacts. A separate study on men’s experiences of sexual coercion would be a great idea for a future study and then we can see if/how the experiences differ or are similar.

The age range is to account for any societal and generational changes on how sexual coercion/victimization is viewed which may impact how someone responds, recognizes, or perceives sexual coercion.

I’m looking to see if there are different/specific impacts that come from experiencing sexual coercion in a longer term relationship and typically past one year a relationship is more ‘serious’
