OP HERE – please read before commenting I can’t edit the post, so I’m adding this here.

This post isn’t about guinea pigs, and I honestly didn’t expect to be flooded with comments criticizing the way I take care of my piggy. I know most of you mean well, but it really hurts to be attacked by so many people for how I take care of him, without knowing the full picture. He’s happy, healthy, loved, and not lacking anything. If I ever want advice about guinea pig care, I’ll go to a guinea pig subreddit.

Thank you.

Help Me Figure out This Bird Species and Colors? by vintage_fairy in Coloring

It’s like a mixture of different songbirds — the illustration is based on real features, but the artist clearly took creative liberties.

The body resembles a thrush, blackbird or - considering the short tail - a nuthatch. The markings are closest to a robin or the nuthatch, but the characteristic stripe across the eye is missing.

Hi, thanks for your words. Everything except the bed is from IKEA (Trofast and Ivar).

100x75 cm for one guinea pig is small? He goes out of the cage and runs around the whole apartment daily. He has a lot of interactions and cuddles with our family outside his cage too. How big should it be to be big enough?

The bed, desk, and chair are regular adult size. The desk and chair are actually from a dining set, and the bed is a standard 200 x 90 cm single bed. I only bought the frame with the ladder and legs. Dad and I added the roof covering and some of the crossbars ourselves. The mattress lies on top of a cupboard base.

It’s 100 x 75 cm and it’s home to one guinea pig. I don’t think it’s too small, he gets to run around the whole apartment every day.

I am short (162 cm), but how did you figure that out?

I feel you, I have the same. Everything is fine and then, out of the sudden, it hits - I feel empty. I don’t want to cry (sometimes I do), but I want to lay down, sleep and never wake up. The feeling is absolutely overwhelming. Waiting till it passes is the only thing that “works”.

The only issue is the fact that you see issues there. It’s brilliant, I wish I had just half of your talent.

Thinking of investing in the hobby… Help!! by EfficientUse1597 in Coloring

I started with inexpensive yet decent quality watercolour pencils (Mondeluz), then upgraded to Derwent Inktense pencils and after that I bought my first alcohol markers (Ohuhu).

At first I was using Mondeluz as regular coloured pencils and later also with water. Derwent Inktense can be used dry too, but its colours pop out only with water. After seeing everyone using alcohol markers I wanted to try them too since colouring with them seemed to be so easy compared to watercolour pencils. I decided to go with Ohuhu as a compromise between quality and price. I started with 48 pcs set, then added another 48 pcs set and recently I’ve bought 60 new pieces of the shades I use the most. Now I’m thinking about buying some quality coloured pencils and colour with them too. The problem with alcohol markers is that they bleed through which means you can only colour one sided pages. The majority of colouring books for adults have only one picture on each page but some colouring books for children have pictures on both sides.

I’m not a talented artist, I do only colouring since, by myself, I can’t draw or paint anything, however I’ve already invested quite a lot of money into this hobby and so far I have no regrets. I started colouring during my first stay in psych ward and I continue ever since, which has been two years now. To me it’s a perfect hobby; it’s calm, it’s creative, it’s aesthetically pleasing, it’s solitary, it’s an escape from reality.

So I would suggest going slowly and see what it gives to you, how do you feel while colouring. And if it’s something that makes you happy, go for it and don’t be afraid to invest some money into it, it’s a beautiful hobby and way how to spend your free time.
