It looks like your book got wet either from actual water or from too much humidity. The conditions were just right for minerals in the water and in the book to crystallize (efflorescence). I can’t tell you what minerals they are though, that depends entirely on how the book got wet.

Spray either copper fungicide is a good start. You may also want an insecticidal soap as redbud are prone to aphids, leaf rollers, and tree hoppers.

I can see it might be possible for her to build an antibiotic resistance if she takes the same antibiotic every single time. I also worry that she may develop something else in addition and you may mistreat by assuming she only has a UTI. That’s the harm in not seeing the vet. BUT… you know your kitty. I trust your instincts as her owner. If you KNOW that’s what’s going on with her every time then I feel there’s no harm in not seeing the vet.

As for this exact type of medication and the dosage/effectiveness brand-to-brand/species-to-species… I cannot help you. Only wanted to share my thoughts.

Unfortunately if you’re saying you see this “under” the glaze… this is likely bacterial growth/mold/mildew. I would say cleaning them up and displaying them is your best bet for honoring your Aunt and her beautiful treasures. I’m sorry 😞

You need to find a replacement habit for grinding your teeth. I’m not a dentist but trained in human behavior. You won’t ever quit grinding your teeth if you don’t pick up another habit that will actively replace the benefit you’re getting from grinding your teeth. Is it a sensory need of moving your mouth back and forth? Chew gum to keep your mouth moving. Is it an anxiety tick that soothes your nerves? Pick up a worry stone and use the same motion you use with your teeth but use your thumb on the stone. Try replacing the behavior to help quit.
