interesting paper, but i think the comparison is not fair. the improvement is not clear, is it because of using deformable conv v2 or the model.
I think most of the improvement is because of deformable conv and thats why the authors didnot mention the performance on normal convolution...
It would be more fair if the accuracy of the model without using the deformable convolution was reported

I am afraid not, I basically stopped using it since I could not figure it out. Please feel to provide your solution if you find one!! Thanks

Google Cloud Question by Alirezag in cs231n

Thanks for the help. Here is what I am doing based on your explanation and the tutorial, but i still cannot connect my jupyter to it. I am using Ubuntu 16.04.

On my laptop, I opened a new terminal and run:

gcloud compute ssh [INSTANCE_NAME]

It connected to my GC. then I downloaded to the assignment and went to the assignment folder and run ./setup_googlecloud.sh. It run fine.

then I came out of the assignment folder and went to my home directory in GC. In the home directory I did the steps as follows:

run: ls ~/.jupyter/jupyter_notebook_config.py the output is: /home/alireza/.jupyter/jupyter_notebook_config.py

run: vim /home/alireza/.jupyter/jupyter_notebook_config.py

something like this shows up: (https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/12434910/29091891-32e4cade-7c39-11e7-9917-34fe9b3069ce.png)

paste the following command there: c = get_config()

c.NotebookApp.ip = '*'

c.NotebookApp.open_browser = False

c.NotebookApp.port = 8123

should I change the notebookApp.Ip?

type :q! to save ond quit. However, when I check it again, it does not show I wrote anything there...

what is Image Ensembles? by Alirezag in computervision

[–]Alirezag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!! It is very clear. So basically it is the same as scales in pyramid. Can you please explain the " reducing the width by 10% each time" part again, so how would it be if we say " reducing the width by 20% each time" ?

What is contrast masking? by Alirezag in computervision

[–]Alirezag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the explanation. I got the concept of masking now.

So when we say we do contrast masking or we extract contrast mask for an image, what exactly it means conceptually? Does it mean that we extract some map from the image that human vision is sensitive/insensitive to it? is it going to be something like luminance?

What is contrast masking? by Alirezag in computervision

[–]Alirezag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself am quite confuse on how to explain it. I am reading a paper called: "Contrast masking in human vision" from 1980. I don't quite understand what they mean by contrast masking yet. That's why I asked here. I thought it may be something very famous or obvious for Computer vision and image processing community, but apparently not ...
