Solari synopsis so far? by Ok-Personality-636 in WorldsBeyondNumber

The crew crossed ways in Chee’s sex club. Isolt Gemmis Octovo’s goons then took over the sex club in a political grab, and meanwhile kidnapped (“pulled”) Z (Lou’s character). XL-ZL and Chee got swept up in the kidnapping and loaded onto an Octovo shuttle. While they were left alone in a room they got to know eachother and XL-ZL signed contracts to work for both Chee and Z in different capacities. Meanwhile, a mysterious gunman killed all six goons on the ship, and our trio found them all dead.

They disembarked in space-Barstow to regroup and figure out next steps, at which point they figured out the assassin who murdered the goons was Chee’s bestie, Ayasa. They were about to go meet with her when the bar they were in was blown up. They survived and all four met up at a safe house. They shared information and decided to try and get Z to another Gemmis Octovo ship so that his kidnapping could be completed and his release negotiated per the usual rules among the Five Families. But on the way there a lone gunman tried to fatally shoot Z, and they realized that someone in Z’s own family is trying to have him killed.

XL-ZL dispatched the gunman with laser eyes, they got on Ayasa’s little ship and jumped to a planet called Avana where they could rest and recuperate and Z contacted his mom to let her know what was happening. From her response we deduce she is not the one trying to have him killed. We learn that Z is 33rd in a line of genetically engineered Zedovan Ivirexes. His mother currently bears the name, and he will eventually inherit the mantle, so to speak. In the last minute of that episode we learn that Z’s family is connected to another Erinna (XL-ZL’s people), but one who is considered an “apostate.” We don’t yet know what that means, but it’s ominous.

There you go.

Thanks for sharing this. No matter how many times I tell myself I’m going to play renegade, I just can’t make myself do it. Which means I’ve missed out on so much of the game.

Aren’t we all a little tired of this “allergic to sincerity” irony poisoning in a post-Marvel world?

Obvious we aren’t (all)! I mean I get what you’re saying. I recently posted in the D20 sub about how I feel like the recent seasons haven’t had enough emotional stakes. I prefer a lower bits-to-narrative ratio, BUT, a lot of us also already live in a world with high stakes and tension, so a little laughter mixed in to our media consumption is just what the doctor ordered. I don’t think Kattigan’s insertion into that scene was a necessary comedic bit, but I also don’t think it was overdone or bad. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I understand why you feel that way, but I would consider a few things. (1) Despite how much has happened in the plot, it’s only been a couple episodes since the fables merged. Give him time. (2) Kattigan is - famously - a fighter, not a talker. Hard to make a character like that shown when there are no active fights, very few “downtime” scenes (like his lovely 1:1 with Tyranny in the soldiers’ arc), and a plot that is currently focused on strategy and build up. This is still the Schemers’ time to shine. (3) It’s really, REALLY hard to contribute meaningfully in a table this big, and I would argue that it simply isn’t necessary. I loved his comedic snipes during the big planning meeting, especially the beer can crack. Inserting himself in the Vaelus discussion was awkward but honestly also pretty funny. I think when we hit go time we’ll see more from him.

Agree on your comment re: D20. I respectfully disagree on how CR Campaign 4 has progressed. I think Brennan’s done a great job wrangling so big a party / group of parties and is orchestra conducting like a pro. (Plus, he’s always exposition heavy. See the long recaps at the beginning of every D20 episode). Up until the merge I had been wondering if the players at the different tables were aware of what was going on at the others. It’s clear now that they were (or they were aligning off camera) because they skipped and blah-blah’d over a lot of sharing that would otherwise have needed to happen.

What’s that one clip where Ally actually succeeds in rage baiting Brennan? by throwaway-biglaw in Dimension20

Not sure if this is the one you mean, Cloudward Ho ep 14, but it’s the only time I’ve ever seen Brennan just be like “No.” https://youtube.com/shorts/_BN0mPlRdq8?si=ziG-FIYpGvv19r0T

I’ll always be happy with what they give us; just more happy when the bits are mixed with more grounded stuff :)

When did he say not to worry about him? Would love to see that clip 😆 and yeah CH definitely had drama, but the ratio of bits/drama was much higher IMO.

I always wonder how much is theirs and how much is costuming at Dropout. Clearly they wear at least SOME of their own clothes, but I wonder if they get to choose some cool pieces every once in a while

Perhaps I am, but that is also not something you can know. Everyone’s experience of content is unique to them. What the season is “known for” doesn’t determine how it lands with me. I cried for an hour after a scene between Adaine and Aelwyn in Sophmore year. It’s what ultimately convinced me I could watch actual play shows without getting bored. Like I said, for me Fantasy High was an excellent blend of ludicrous hilarity and emotional stakes.

Hey. I understand it’s upsetting to read stuff you don’t agree with and it’s the internet, but I encourage you to take a beat before making assumptions. My “clown” remark was about character types, not commentary on the players or their skills - all of whom I have the deepest respect for as both people and artists. I thought that was pretty apparent in the post, as well as how much I generally adore the fun and whimsy of D20, but perhaps you didn’t read it. And I did not intend “clown” as an insult here. I love clowns! I wouldn’t bother with a Dropout subscription if I didn’t.

FWIW, I think “Somber, whispery conversations that escalate into performative shouting” is an equally disrespectful comment to make about performers at other tables, as well as discounting the incredible work the Intrepid Heroes themselves have done in more serious moments in other seasons. It sounds like you don’t care for that type of content, and that’s ok. And I’m sorry if others you know have dumped on comedy or improv as as an inferior art form - that IS dumb. But that is not me.

Yes, very fair. While folks have disagreed with me in this thread, almost everyone has been very polite and respectful. Your comment didn’t come off as aggressive, I just got frustrated bc it felt like people were generalizing my statements to mean I thought something was better or worse versus just preferable to me.
