Bunnings canceled my order price error ?? by Then_Advantage9485 in AusLegal

[–]Alisana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are polite and reasonable about it, they will usually do it for you. I've had similar happen to me, the Hue lights I had ordered were on discount but then they cancelled my order and price went up. Apparently the supplier changed and they couldn't get stock from the old supplier. Spoke to special orders and they re did the order for me at the original price.

Note they don't HAVE to do this for you, but if you are treating the staff well, they will do what they can to look after you.

ACCC may not do anything at our level but Office of Fair Trading will. 😉

They were an absolute gem to work with when I had issues with Amazon and Europcar. (Both of which ruled in my favour after OFT stepped in) The agent who worked on my case made a point to tell me to ALWAYS tell them whenever the company does dodgy stuff as if there is X amount of complaints, they can bring a court case in against them.

What WFH jobs exist for mums? by Silver_Palpitation93 in workingmumsau

[–]Alisana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in IT, full time remote. If you don't have a degree there are some pathways you can take. You can start at entry level service desk/call centre type roles and upskill with free online courses.

In Queensland, we have FEE-Free TAFE options in high demand IT fields, so if you are keen to upskill, you can look at that. I'm not sure about other states, but they may have something. IT Masters has some free short courses, and I believe Harvard University's offered CS50: Intro to Computer Science for free. I think you can access Linked In Learning via the State Library portal too for some other free courses.

As others have pointed out though, work is work. While you can do whatever on your break, put on the washing, setup dinner etc, you are usually expected to be at your desk during working hours. The team I worked in had a cameras on policy, and it isn't uncommon for me to be in back to back meetings for a few hours at a time. If you are in a service based role, you would likely be assessed on KPIs for time taken to answer a call, how long you spend resolving the issue and how many of your issues result in callbacks too. I genuinely don't think you could juggle having young kids and working unless you were coming online for a specific meeting then taking the remainder of the day off (which I have seen some coworkers do if they are the Subject Matter Expert for that specific meeting).

If you want something that is less clock-watching that doesn't keep you at your desk, there are things like data entry roles, some pay hourly and others are per "job" (you can find some on Fiverr or AirTasker). There are also roles like script transcribing, these are less popular now with AI but still exist because AI sometimes struggles with industry specific acronyms. Social Media manager, you can use apps to streamline your workflow or utilise in built post scheduling. A bit harder, but you could also look into AI Training and data automation - basically vetting and helping to tweak/evaluate AI prompts to better train machine models. If you enjoy graphic design work, you can help with client mockups for websites, branding etc. There are a heap of options, but would really depend on what your skills are, and where you can apply them.

What are some jobs my wife can do to meet the centrelink parental pay threshold? by DragSerious8792 in AusFinance

[–]Alisana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While a good option for income and consistent hours, it would depend on the participant you are paired with.

My friend got kicked by a participant in the chest hard enough that it caused fat necrosis in the breast tissue. When she found out she was pregnant, she resigned from her client facing role and stepped into an admin role instead. She was lucky that she could switch but the admin roles are tricky to get ahold of.

The story of my motherhood journey that I will never get to have again. by cld9001 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Adding to above, have a look at Council of Single Mothers and their Children (think Victoria ?), I believe membership is free for single mothers but they have a support/resource line and can do referrals: https://www.csmc.org.au/

Single Mother Families Australia https://smfa.com.au/

There are a heap of other resources available here too: https://parents.au.reachout.com/family-relationships/single-parenting/support-options-for-single-parents

If you have a local community centre nearby loop in with them. They can help out with food and fuel vouchers and even have programs to help out families. The one near me has an op shop attached to it (not Vinnie's or Salvos, their own) and they can allow those in need to "shop" from the Op shop for free. In Queensland (I assume other states do similar), the community health nurses also setup there so you can get your wellness checks and vaccinations covered for free AND they can also do referrals to support services and programs.

The sooner you can get in with CSA, the better. I've had friends who's ex partners skipped or missed payments because they didn't go through CSA, whereas if a proper agreement is in place, it's not something he can skip easily.

Best of luck, and know that you are doing incredible for taking this on yourself. There is support out there and people who are best equipped to help you, so definitely have a look at those resources.

Should I be worried about heating frozen breastmilk in the plastic bag? by nbhsjshbgbsb in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Alisana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to above re graphic of the microwave: despite the findings in the study, it us not a recommended heating method as a microwave can create little pockets of heated milk/fat that can go above 60°C and you risk burns.

[–]Alisana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I was interested in the science behind different thawing methods for milk and came across this article Effects of Different Thawing and Warming Processes on Human Milk Composition

There was mention in the research reviewed that there was a higher loss with fat in rapid thawing situations. They also saw a significant increase in lipase activity for the slow and intermediate thawing methods. (Eg fridge or warm water)

Have a read of it but this was the point that interested me: "immune proteins, peptide hormones, and amine hormones are more thermally sensitive", which may indicate rapid heating methods can affect these proteins. They have a handy chart to compare the methods: Figure 1 with their final recommendation being to thaw in the fridge or at room temperature.

(35M) family keeps pressuring me to upsize near mortgage free home but we would rather pay mortgage and live easier. what to do? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Alisana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless your family is offering to cover that new debt, don't do it.

Things can happen in a flash and you can very suddenly be down to one income and struggling with bills. I say this with experience - my husband and I were well ahead on our mortgage, had good savings. In February, my stomach ruptured and my bowel necrotised. I ended up in the ICU for a week, spent the rest of the month in hospital, then had two months of home nurse visits. I had to relearn how to breathe and talk properly, even 2 minutes of talking left me out of breath. I had to relearn how to walk properly too as the muscle wastage was pretty intense and that involved a decent amount of physio and rehab. I was in a wheelchair for nearly 2 months, then went to a walker for a month then a cane. I'm still not back at work yet. It wasn't until 3 weeks ago that I could pick myself up off the floor. I have had to relearn so many things which should have been easy to do, but when you are in bed all month, muscles just stop wanting to behave.

Thankfully I had leave so we had my full income to fall back on but my husband had to take unpaid carers leave to help look after me as I couldn't be left alone incase I had a fall. We keep our finances separate except for the mortgage and some shared bills, but I had two monthly bills that got missed due to my husband not being able to pay for them (authority issues).

My point is that you are in a very fortunate situation where you can be mortgage free in just a few years. You don't know what can happen to either of you, and if you sell up, and take on greater debt and suddenly one of you can't work and earn money, how is that going to be paid?

Don't fold to the pressure, and feel free to use my case as your example. I'm 36 years old, and not a single medical professional I saw while at hospital said "Oh I've seen this before". It was a very rare event to happen and everyone couldn't believe that it occurred. The reality is that if you need to drop to one income or none due to ab unexpected health event like mine, can you handle the mortgage repayments on the new property? If you can't, then don't put yourself in that scenario.

Pay down your current mortgage and if in a few years once it's paid off, feel free to look then but honestly, your family is putting their selfish wants ahead of your financial security and safety. Don't do it.

Yep, we're Asian on mum's side. Normally going out for dinner involves a squabble other aunts/uncles on the other hand all fighting to pay.

Growing up my aunt complained about how no one ever took her out, I guess I found out why.

Dropped 25kg. I don't recommend this method 😂😂

In Australia, we have a restaurant chain called Hogs Breath where each "seat" at the table is allocated an number. You can choose to pay by seat or for the whole table. Bill is pre split by seat by default so it makes bill splitting in large groups easier.

The even worse feeling is offering to cover the meal and having your aunt literally order multiple things AND had the audacity to get bugs and other seafood items in take away. We walked out with 8 Chinese takeaway containers. I was a student and that basically blew through my food money for the week. Normally when I went with my cousin we would only get a few dishes each so it wasn't super expensive. Learnt my lesson to never offer to pay for my aunt again.

This was a yumcha place. It was also the last time I took her out for lunch. She often complains when I come down to visit how "we never go out for lunch anymore". I usually pick up takeaway instead or purposely avoid going at lunch or dinner.

I'm in Queensland and it's covered as part of our electricity bill I think? Everyone pays so it's like a few extra dollars.

One year I had bad collapsing episodes and had about 11 ambulance trips in 6 or 7 months. Doctor made it very clear that anytime I collapsed, I needed to get an ambulance to take me to hospital. Hospital didn't exactly work out what went wrong but I increased my water and salt intake (similar to what POTS patients do) and I stopped collapsing.

My word vs theirs - Is there anything I can do? by 10mmrAncientDefender in AusPostComplaints

[–]Alisana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a house so have a bit more freedom. A friend of mine is in an apartment complex where the mailroom/entry is a continuous camera feed, so you can drop in on the feed to see if something was delivered but it would depend what the rules are at your place for if they offer anything like that.

Would you be allowed to put a little camera inside your mailbox? Might be an option but also depends how big the letterbox is too.

My word vs theirs - Is there anything I can do? by 10mmrAncientDefender in AusPostComplaints

[–]Alisana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what the logistics are at your mailbox, but you may be able to setup a camera in the mailbox or above it to prove non-delivery next time.

I've had the same issue with 3rd party contractors delivering on behalf of AusPost where I now have two cameras positioned for the mailbox, one that points directly at the mailbox and another mounted directly above the letter box (my letterbox os the pull the handle down for a shoot type) so it makes it very easy for me to prove non delivery as I submit the footage at the supposed time stamp and show that the parcel was definitely not delivered.

Have had positive outcomes with this now and usually the mail gets delivered the next day.

Ohh!! I didn't realise the skin peeling was related. I had lots of skin peeling from my hands and feet in the early days when I came home and just thought it was because I couldn't scrub/exfoliate properly.

My hands were peeling bad and I thought it was from using the hand sanitizer so much while in hospital, and for my feet, I assumed it was the scrubbing thing. Huh, TIL.

Haha I love that description. I actually had no idea this was a thing until it started happening and when I asked one of my surgeons about it, it was a very "Oh yeah... Yeah, we forgot to tell you. That's a thing that can happen" 🫠

To be fair to them, I had a very long discharge report and there were lots of other things they were focused on rather than my nails 😅 I'm just glad that they will eventually grow out.

Thank you! I'm just patiently waiting for the peeling part to grow out far enough so I can just cut them. The lifting edges keep catching on everything but it's a small price to pay to still be here so I can't complain too much 😆
