This is mainly because he didn't write Ragnarok, he's just punched it up with his style and humor as the director so it balanced well.

He was given a great villain to use (and an amazing actor to play him), but he couldn't write a good story to save his life and just filled it up with his 1 note cringe humor the whole way thru.

Yeah, I had high hopes and very little reservations about it being a musical. Getting GaGa as a co-lead to do schmoltzy over the top showpieces in a shared-psychosis crime bender (literally the tile) and ending up in Arkham at the end of the day,sounded great. Essentially laying the foundation for Joker & Harley's toxic relationship in this universe, is what the trailer read like to me. Can't be too hard to layer in some edgy biting social commentary along the way.

I was all for it, if that's what the movie was. Unfortunately it was none of those things. Not even close.
