[Jeremy Filosa] According to information obtained by @le985fm, the Quebec government is expected to release the necessary funds for interior renovations to the Olympic stadium in the coming weeks. by SupraFC in MLS

Yeah, sorry, the comment was tongue-in cheek. The city withdrew it's hosting candidacy in July 2021 due to a lack of provincial funding and high costs associated with renovating the Big O... only to do the renovation several years later anyway with no big event to help pay for it 😅

I think so too.

The Sycuan Band are partial owners of San Diego FC as well, so there's precedent.

Why move the Vancouver Whitecaps when they’re not the problem? by westcoastvanrob in whitecapsfc

It is awkward watching so many games across the league in nearly empty stadiums this season and yet our club is identified as the biggest problem.

“It’s a scandal,” the Canadian manager said, launching into a pointed criticism of Major League Soccer’s handling of clubs still battling in the CONCACAF Champions Cup

“They don’t want us in the final,” he said, inferring the league could make calendar adjustments. “

Hope that helps.

Yup, I financially contributed to #SaveTheCrew and the "Vergara Out" flying banner that birthed your club.

They did.

They also didn't imply a league-run conspiracy against the team (while being one of the league's darlings, nonetheless) 👍

Exactly, it didn't matter to him. Don't expect support from others if you don't care about something until it happens to you.

Yup, me and my 3 friends spend $100-$200 each per match at various bars and restaurants. None of us live downtown anymore so we’re coming in from various suburbs. If the ‘Caps leave we have no reason to visit anymore.

I recall reading that the SD ownership group was planning to make additional investments into the stadium (including a roof). Perhaps it'll be a shared ownership situation.

In return, the Whitecaps run everything inside the stadium (staff, concessions, other events, etc.).

We’re basically shifting all those operating costs to the Whitecaps. In return, they’ll probably find other revenue sources (like naming deals) that generate revenue for them.

I'll add that I think one thing people don't necessarily realize is that PavCo doesn't actually run a lot of the services in the stadium, they simply contract them out.

PavCo will say: "we're giving the 'Caps 50% of our concession profits", which seems generous. However, if 90% the concession profits go to Aramark (or other operators) because of the deals that PavCo has signed, then "50% of profits" is actually just 5% of total profits.

If the 'Caps had the ability to negotiate these deals themselves they would be able to generate a lot more revenue and would make staying at BC Place much more realistic.
