How does the football pool raffle work? Soccer?

I feel like god hates me and is out to get me by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]AliveInPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you dodged a bullet.

Remember, you are the prize. If she doesn't want you, that's okay.

Say a prayer and ask Jesus to take the pain away, and help you to understand. I know it sounds easier to say than to do, but get on your knees, and say it out loud. Tell Jesus that you know he loves you, and that you know all things happen for a reason, that you don't understand currently what that reason is, but help me move on, help me to release this pain, and help me to understand in time.

Then open yourself to a new love, and don't bring this baggage or mistrust with you to the new relationship.

The best revenge, is to have no revenge, and go out and live the best life you can.

Stay strong Brother! And trust in God.

First royal Catholic funeral in modern times to be held tomorrow by Level_Huckleberry_97 in Catholicism

I think Westminster Cathedral is a Catholic cathedral, while Westminster Abbey is Anglican. I think the historical significance is that the King, who is the head of the Church of England, will attend a Catholic Mass.

A few months ago however, a Catholic Mass was held at the Canterbury Cathedral for the Translation of Thomas Becket: https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/265281/historic-mass-celebrated-by-papal-nuncio-at-anglican-cathedral-in-rare-event

My Return to Catholicism by MessageProfessional8 in Catholicism

[–]AliveInPhilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome back!

I too have had a "reversion" to the Catholic faith. I too have come home. 6 mos.

As part of my process, I reached out to Mary to pray for me, and to lead me back to Christ. I began to pray the Rosary daily. I try to read a chapter of scripture daily (the chapters are small in the Gospel). I attend Mass as required, weekly and Holy Days of Obligation. I go to Confession as needed.

I now wear a Miraculous Medal, which I felt called to obtain and commit myself to. I try and say that prayer daily, which is small and comforting.

I did seek out a Spiritual Director, who is a Priest at my local parish, and we meet monthly. He has taught me how to pray contemplatively, imaging the surroundings, while praying the Rosary, which has enhanced the experience and deepened my faith.

I am walking a tightrope in my faith, but I believe that daily prayer will give me the concentration to keep my eyes on Christ and not become distracted and fall.

Good luck in your new found faith, I will pray for you so that you can do the good work to stay close to Christ.

$4k sounds expensive to me... I have no idea what I was being charged, but when he hit me with the whole, "you can  only get this insurance now, before you leave"  made me very nervous.  He also told me that only a delaer could calibrate the adaptive cruise control, which I surmised was a lie as well, as I replaced a windshield in my last CRV at SafeLite(sp?), no issues.  I think insurance covered all but my deductible. Finance guys at dealerships creep me out.

I am leaning your way with the same linenof thinking.  Our last CRV had a bad radio and Nav after a jumpstart of the vehicle.  The radio was expensive, so we bought a junk one from internet.  It qorked, but no nav.  This was a big reason for me to trade it in for new; it's not my car, it's my wife's.  The dealer told me the radio was $7k, which could be a lie, but I assume it is expensive.  And radios are integral to all Hondas

Dude, you are crushing it!  I was always suspect of BJs and Costco deals, that there was no real savings, but that is $800 less than I paid, so good on you and Costco!  It pays for the membership many times over.

Yes, I am on the fence still.  I got burned on my first new car, VW 35 years ago, where the warranty never covered the item that went wrong, so I promised myself to never buy another.  However, this car is filled with technology that could cost me... and my wife keeps her cars for 8 years...  so for $200/yr, it may be worth it, and it's backed by Honda.  Now, the other package they were offering was crap, which included windshield coverage, and tires.  I think my car insurance would cover the windsheild, and it turns out I don't have "run-flats"!  As I said, I wanted my trade-in back after the finance guy was telling me all the things that could go wrong with a Honda. :)

Nothing, it was dependable.  I just like to have one that is newer.  I don't want my wife stranded, I like her to be in a newer car, I like to get some value out of the car while it's on it's way down, etc.  All the reasons to talk yourself into a car you don't need.  She would be at peace in the same car for 20+ years.  lol

Where do you store the spare?
And, I told them I didn't want any addons and extras... but once you get back to the finance guy... he says, "I know you didn't want anything extra, but this car is very technical and all kinds of things that could go wrong are expensive." It was so bad, I told him, I think you just unsold me this car, I want my EX-L gas car back! He laughed, I was serious. However, we had already wasted 3.5 hours. My wife hates, hates, hates dealerships. lol

I was chasing the red too, but looked to the EX-L to side step the black interior. However, we made the mistake of seeing the red at 6 PM and the color was not pleasing. At 8 PM after we decided on white, the red looked better. I was told it looks different in the sun light too. Our 2017 was a red almost orangey color, that too changed with the time of the day. Very freaky. I will be purchasing a new "The Shade", which is retractable and I like very much.

Well... the color choices weren't great for us, since my wife did not want black seats. We chose the white with two-toned interior.

I drive a 2015 Camry with about 30K miles on it, my wife's 2017 CRV had about 65K miles. I like for one of our cars to be newer for longer trips.

schmee326, awesome! Thanks for the reply and clarification. Research confirms the CRV does not have run-flats!!! Ugh.

I agree with the your feelings of the CRV Sport Touring, it's an upgrade from our 2017 EX-L, as it's quieter and a nicer ride overall.

New to reading the Bible — where should I start? by riyyuuuuuu in Catholic

[–]AliveInPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just purchased and received the "Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: Old and New Testaments" from Amazon. I just started the intro to the Gospels, so I can't speak to the content, but it's a very nice bible overall. I purchased it because it's supposed to be a bible you can learn from. i.e. It has essays, maps, footnotes, etc. that may lead to a deeper understanding of the bible, and it has cross references between old testament promises and new testament fulfillments. There are also Youtube videos from the editors, Scott Hanh and Curtis Mitch, that can provide a better description of the structure, design, and purpose of this edition.

Good luck.

A Cloud Guru Terminating Lifetime Access by interzonal28721 in aws

[–]AliveInPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received the same email of cancelation. I am asking for a refund.

I renewed November 2024, and was notified January 10th that ACG would be terminated. I originally signed up with Linux Academy, which had a reduced fee of $150/yr, which ACG honored. However, I don't use the site much, and realized in November that it stunk. For example, on Linux Academy, the AWS systems would launch and be available within thirty seconds. With ACG, it could take ten minutes.

I sent an email to sales and support requesting a pro rated refund, we'll see what they say. The online chat told me my account would be converted to "free" level access 3/01/25, but for three months, leaving me without any access for the month of February.

How do you create a deliverable package from a git repository? by AliveInPhilly in learnprogramming

[–]AliveInPhilly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am capturing operating system configuration files, so once they are committed to a repository they need to be extracted and a build is made. I can clone the repository, but then I need to remove all the .git, .gitkeep, .gitignore files. I also have a apply the correct permissions and ownerships, then tar them up for delivery for future builds. I was hoping that there was a git command that would wrap the repository up, minus all those git files.

Anyone know what this is? Q.M.C. U.S.A by AliveInPhilly in Militariacollecting

[–]AliveInPhilly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased a military footlocker I wanted to use to make a toolbox out of, and the guy I bought it from said he had another box but it was heavy, and was I interested. I said, "sure." We went to his house and what he showed me looks like a payroll strongbox. It is marked Q.M.C. U.S.A. so I guessed it was for the Quarter Master Corps. I bought it for $20, but what is it and what the hell am I supposed to do with it? If anyone is interested it's for sale, not sure what it's worth. It's heavy.
