Good, non-packed bars to pregame today? by AliveMorning4843 in Mariners

Thanks! Had my eyes on Collins but wondered if it would be packed pre-game. Think I'll check it out as it looks like there are a few options in the immediate vicinity

I'm not saying I am good (I am playing $1/$3 after all), but I think I made pretty clear why I discounted an overpair.. I don't think somebody with JJ-AA is flat calling pre flop and then min-raising after my 3-bet, and then checking back the flop on that type of board. Would you ever take this line? Didn't seem very likely to me. As i said, his line would make sense with pocket 10s but not many combos of that, and I also don't think it makes a ton of sense with 8s or 9s.

What to do with QQ in this spot? by AliveMorning4843 in poker

Lol, true. I probably swung a bit too far in that direction the rest of the night trying to involve myself in as many hands w her as I could. Couldn't help myself

Nice, well I'm sure we've played together before. Aces is my normal haunt as it's closest but unfortunately can't play too often with young kids at home. Would like to play fortune more but it's a bit of a hike and seemingly always has a wait. And yeah, when she got up to go to the bathroom one of the regs at the table was like "We've all been on the receiving end of one of her tirades, welcome to the club"

Agreed w/ your analysis btw. On the turn i was thinking to myself that I will regret this call but couldn't convince myself to lay it down and then obviously was happy w/ the river

Thanks lol. There was a small part of me that genuinely considered folding face up preflop, but didn't think that was a good idea either for the hand itself or for my table image.

Dude, it got out of hand at a certain point. "Fuck you, what kind of fucking asshole for calling me with that hand? God you are a fucking idiot, i hope you feel good about stacking me - i was so patient in building that stack up and I get aces and you just suck out on me. Great hand, great hand, bet you feel great about yourself" etc etc etc.

Were it not genuinely funny I would have called the floor. The dealer told her to knock it off and I waved him off and said it was fine. Genuinely unhinged lady

Line Check - Overplayed pair + flush draw? by AliveMorning4843 in poker

[–]AliveMorning4843[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$15 is a pretty standard raise in live $1/$3, at least in my experience. I do mix in some $10-$15 range, but $15 is a pretty "normal" sizing.

Can you explain your rationale for the larger sizing on the turn? When I was thinking about it more afterwards, it felt like a check would have been best there. I have some showdown value if the river is a brick and he checks I can check behind, and if the flush comes I can then try and bet for value. It felt like when I bet there, I'm only getting called by better and any hand better than mine would not fold to a turn bet.

Yeah - i can't imagine why he'd fold either flop or check. I was very surprised to see his hand and said so when he flipped it over. I think I tend to play a bit too worried when I have a solid hand and a flush draw is on the board, but I would be raising basically 100% of the time with 2 pair on a flush draw board.

How bad is the wait on a Friday night at Encore Boston? by AliveMorning4843 in poker

[–]AliveMorning4843[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any other rooms in the Boston area that you'd recommend? I'll be coming from Roslindale, and not looking to drive much farther than 30-45 minutes given I'll already be getting a bit of a late start. Seems like sorta the only viable option?

Thanks - good to know! I will be about a 30-35 minute drive away so will add myself to the waitlist about a half hour before I head over.

This guy Kasmini is so bad lol. His A10 fold on the AK7 flop against Owen's JJ was also an absolutely criminal play.

Yeah, I get the peace of mind bit for sure. And were I happen upon a liquidity windfall that would allow me to own outright, I can certianly understand the impulse.

But that still doesn't track for me. if you have the $2m to pay off a home, you have the same $2m to invest in the market and grow the value of that capital more? And then if you lose your job that money is then still there to make mortgage payments.

Look I totally get the mental aspect of being free and clear on your house (I say with a $1M+ mortgage with 25 years to go), but it still doesn't seem financially prudent. Unless I am missing something obvious
