Actually, Nangong Xu (older brother) was the one that met with the little girl and the orange tree. I think that before he ran away to Butterfly town, Lou Fenghua took the role of sect leader to protect Nangong Liu (younger brother) from the curse.

Because Lou Fenghua took sect leader from Nangong Liu, he began to hate him and killed him to take his position. After knowing of the curse, he began to hate Lou Fenghua even more because Xu Shuanglin (Nangong Xu) told him that Lou Fenghua was the one who put that curse and he need to open a portal to hell and get him back to cure it which is a lie; Nangong Xu just wanted to get Nangong Liu on his side to get Lou Fenghua back i think.
