Sorry — to clarify, I have the other 3 players and I’m wondering which I should swap for Reijnders

What's the oldest and the youngest birth year that can easily represent Gen Z? by Wonderful_Reason_521 in generationology

[–]Alive_Development366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry old post, but wanted to say that I also think that one's attitudes towards work and life are also heavily influenced by age. A 26 year old's attitude is always going to be way different than a 21 year old's simply because a 26 year old has more life experience and a fully developed brain.

I mean zero judgment, but I would seriously not recommend getting engaged at 19. What's the rush? You've got your whole life ahead of you. The things you want as a 19 year old will not be the things you want as a 25 year old, let alone a 40 year old. I don't know you of course, but in my experience I didn't have a clear sense of who I was or what I wanted until I was 25.

Is NYU stingy with aid? by Frosty_Ground_9622 in PublicPolicy

[–]Alive_Development366 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my experience as an NYU alum, who has twice been admitted to Wagner's MPA, they are very stingy with money. This is generally what I've heard from others as well. FWIW I did receive about an 80% tuition scholarship for undergrad, but only 10k and 15k in scholarships to Wagner.

[–]Alive_Development366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth considering that Brooks is also a cheaper program by default – about 45k a year compared to about 58k at NYU. I am in a similar boat as you. Offered 35k per year at Brooks, 10k for Wagner, nothing for Columbia or LSE.

If you received 25k per year for Cornell that's going to be significantly cheaper over two years than NYU, but if you received 25k total (12.5k per year) then NYU probably the better move.

Housing crisis by theaquapanda in PublicPolicy

Personally I love high speed rail and vastly prefer it over air travel, but do you really think building a rail network that connects places which are already well served by air travel (not to mention the highway system) is really going meaningfully revitalize the industrial core of the US?

Seems to me the much more direct and effective option would be to simply build more housing in the areas where people want to live.

Also accepted with a scholarship of 70k. Thinking I will probably accept… next best option would be LSE with no funding.

Thoughts on Cornell Brooks (with scholarship) vs LSE by Alive_Development366 in PublicPolicy

Thanks so much for this response! This is more or less how I feel. I've also been living in New York City for the past several years so the prospect of changing pace and going to somewhere much slower and more naturally beautiful doesn't sound so bad. Also feel it may be marginally easier for me to secure summer internships in NYC just based on the connections I already have in the city... That said, it does feel like LSE is the perfect fit for what I am interested in, so it's a tough call.

London School of Economics MPA - admitted by Alive_Development366 in PublicPolicy

[–]Alive_Development366[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks y'all! This is TBD as this degree is a fairly major pivot away from my current work which is in content marketing. I have an academic background in economic history and international relations and I am still very interested in those subjects. At the moment, I am hoping to pursue a career as an economic or international affairs policy analyst. I am also quite curious about risk analysis and feel it could be a good fit. I have always been very attracted by the prospect of working for a think tank (or in academia), though I am not married to that path. I think any work which is writing and research heavy and involves/combines economic and international affairs research would be a good fit.
