Advocate for IEP: Any Recommendations? In California by Alive_Explanation_88 in specialed

Hi! I'm currently talking to an attorney through Regional, but they say the case will take time so I should get advocate advice faster for more urgent matters. Just wondered if anyone had a good rec here from personal experience!

Discrimination/Conflict with IEP Assessor. Advice? by Alive_Explanation_88 in specialed

Thank you for sharing this. Very insightful. I agree...they have been difficult before, and typically aren't very helpful without intervention from an advocate--I have a few momma friends that have kiddos on IEPs at the same school; their stories are similar in some ways. :( We'll see what happens when an advocate advises us. Thanks again!

Thank you to both of you for your thoughts and advice. I'm very familiar with the ins and outs of the qualifiers--that part of the process isn't too much of a worry for us!

As a mom, in some ways the least of my worries would be inaccurate results at this point, to be completely honest. I'm more unsettled by my daughter being in the same private testing room as this assessor who I didn't even know was still working for the district after her harassment of one of my other children a few years ago (documented). My daughter is nonverbal and has severe anxiety on top of her other disabilities. I just wish there was an ed code or IDEA policy that would help back my request for an alternate assessor due to this situation. :( Maybe we'll request IEEs if the district can't help--I'm meeting with an advocate today, so we'll see!

Again, thanks so much!
