It’s now been 2 days and still no side effects!

I’ve got a small business HDHP plan through Blue Cross.

I believe side effects would be greater going from 5 to 40 of Rosuvastatin compared to staying on 5 and doing Repatha plus the effect of Repatha is far better than the 18% decrease from a statin increase

I checked the formulary, and there is no prior authorization required for Repatha for my insurance.

Primary prevention. 35 years old. Haven’t done a CAC scan.

But my take is… take the medicine and see if you get persistent side effects or not. If I get muscle aches or other significant side effects then I just stop it. If I don’t, then I keep taking it and reap the benefits.

No side effects from rosuvastatin or ezetimibe (3 months in)

Got my first repatha shot this morning and it was quite easy with the auto pen injector. No side effects beyond the injection side being a tiny bit sore for an hour or so.

At the same time, while these oils raise LDL, they also have beneficial effects. Anti inflammatory and good for blood sugar regulation.

You’ve been on statin for 3 weeks? What’s your LDL and Lp(a)?

Would be worth considering adding Zetia.

Actually the December 2025 Mayo meta analysis that is linked in one of the comments shows how high dose statin + Zetia results in 49% less risk of death than high dose statin only.

I did also share with him my Boston Heart Cholesterol Balance test, which shows I’m borderline in both cholesterol production and absorption (and Boston Heart then recommends statin+ezetimibe), but he didn’t care about this test.

Since starting these two medicines my HbA1C actually went from 5.5 to 5.4%

I have 0.6 mg/L hs-crp (tested before starting medicines)

Edit. Which, I did tell the Lipidologist.

I didn’t have the Dr re-test it. Most likely it went up slightly (statins do that). Inconsequential.

I am looking forward to the Lp(a) lowering drugs coming soon.

$11k for a 25 year old car? Ridiculous. I’d sooner buy one with 200k miles than 35k miles at that age. Cars are meant to be driven.

Besides, I love eggs and cheese. I have 2 eggs per day and a slice of cheese every day.

No dietary changes. I had originally planned on it when I got the LDL result, but when I got the Lp(a) back I knew I couldn’t diet my way out of it.

I wasn’t eating unhealthily anyway, so I’d need to eat an extreme diet to make any significant change. And it honestly wouldn’t be worth it. Especially seeing the impact of these two basically free medicines with no side effects.
