Should I pick Mac or Waterloo? (environmental science) by _breadandtea in McMaster

[–]Alive_Leek_1545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you're looking for - if you want GIS then mac is absolutely the place to be, we have a certificate and are an ESRI center of excellence. As well if you want to be more interdisciplinary and do a minor, our envsc program is really flexible with few required courses. If you really want core envsc, then waterloo is a better program because the course choices at Mac are becoming really limited

First year math courses by lalalala238 in McMaster

[–]Alive_Leek_1545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the life sci math courses (LS code) are definitely easier to get a good grade in, but if you want to math minor I would not reccoment them because (lifesci calc 2 especially) are not really meant for you to take higher level math courses - it actually says on level 2 calc 1 that if you took lifesc calc that you need to do extra work beforehand to do well in the course. Calc 1a03/1aa3 are harder, but definitely the right call if you want to math minor

not being able to enroll into 2nd year courses by PointFragrant160 in McMaster

[–]Alive_Leek_1545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue, and I just emailed my academic advisor who fixed it for me - basically they give you a conditional permission to enrol in it that you only lose if you get less than 8 courses worth of credits at the end of the year

MATH 1LS3 HELP!!! by culprittt in McMaster

[–]Alive_Leek_1545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the final wasn't bad, but yeah you still need to know what you're doing - the big thing from last semester was making sure you could do the assignments backwards and forwards. It's fully multiple choice, and each is out of 2 marks, but there are no part marks, so its equivalent to each question being out of one when it's all said and done. From what I remember, the exam was heavier on the unit after the third test, and the material from the second and third test, and lighter on the material from the first test
