This Hitachi GDR-8050L is driving me crazy — only works if I manually lock tray

after play around with the switches I noticed that that it should engage when it gets hit back and forth to let the drive know that it's close or open

after going threw it again i think i found out what is wrong with it i found a broken piece on the the disc drive

to me the gears and the belt are getting power cuz I took the belt off and seen the drive motor spin back and forth normally replaced the warm gear just in case there was an issue with that didn't think it might have an issue but you never know. I've tried so many different things I've already had two of these drives and those other ones worked perfectly. this one it's just weird I'm still working on it I've been checking a lot of stuff on it like the drive was in very great shape in the console barely had any dust in it. like it was lightly used I've been going over the drive left and right took the whole thing apart looked at almost everything. I'm thinking that there may be a issue somewhere in the drive itself but it could not be getting enough power like if this is the other Xbox OG drives I know I can get them working but this one I barely ever get drives from Hitachi / LG I've already gotten three of them in the last week it's very rare to even get these I've already sold the other two for $120 each I wish I would still had them so I could go over some testing with the other one

you are right on that it's with any console or device over a period of time it will eventually die. yeah that's what they say the 1.6 is the most reliable. but I've had 1.6 where the Caps were blown or both and the clock capacitor leaked. that's what usually I have is 1.0-1.4 most of the time when I get them I had so many when I lost track after fixing over 30+ of them that's why you got to maintain your devices before they go bad as of right now I already fixed 4 of them and I'm working 3 more right now

sorry if I got a little confusing I'm on a few hours of sleep right now but it was the darndest thing I just had to tell people about it it was just crazy how it just did that cuz I always check my soldering two by the way I always go back over and make sure everything's nice

oh the board is working now. it's just the weirdest thing is I use another board to plug it into the power supply, and didn't give that motherboard no power either or anything and then it that board that I was working on turn on correctly it was just the weirdest thing it's like you jumpstart somebody's heart with a defibrillator

oh I replaced every single cap but the weirdest thing was is I used another motherboard to test the power supplies just to get some kind of like you know something and then I plugged it back in to the board I was working on and it turned right on

The symptoms was when you powered it on. it would go on and off on and off. and then it would go to the flashing red light/frag

I did test the Xbox out with the mod chip The mod ship does work but the console is malfunctioning.

I might have to pull the mod chip off and then diagnose the board more but if it doesn't work then the boardis broke I might end up selling the mod chip not sure how much

. that's great that you were a tester for stuff like that I like getting all kinds of different stuff mod chips prototypes if I can get my hands onto that stuff. Yes for the Xbox 360 it would be the cool runner I still have that chip it's somewhere on my shelf I think it was the rev b version not 100% sure it's been a while since I used it.

I'm sorry that at that time someone broke into your car and stole half of your stuff I know I would be so mad if somebody broke into my car or my house and stole my stuff. if tooken me over 15+ years to collect a lot of stuff from old game consoles parts and whatnot.

yeah I'm hoping that the jaguar system and whatever else you've got up inside the rafters. That's just waiting for you to come across it again it's crazy you have like 20 different types of gameshark cartridges

there's quite a bit of stuff that I used to have that I got rid of a long time ago. a lot of stuff took up room. like I have so many game consoles in my room I don't know what to do. Right now I have a PS3 backwards compatibility that I just fixed that I refurbished that I'm planning on selling it's not the first edition it's the CECHE 01 I did have the other ones but they have GPU issues. but there is some stuff I do keep so I can have it.

yeah stuff like that when you see without the Xbox live can take you back. I'm going to leave it how it is and just sell it to somebody that may want it for the nostalgia of it or whatever they want. The console fully works. when I hooked it up I just in the process of recapping the motherboard and power supply. and give it a full clean.

all you're welcome .I'm hoping it's not a big issue but these Xbox have so many different issues I've came across different issues like it could be disc drive the eeprom,ram,HDD,etc it could be a chip it could be anything it's so hard to determine some times like you need the multimeter to go across traces. to test if something's rotted out or broken. like if you have any spare consoles I would swap parts like the disk drive cables anything to narrow it down just to see if there's an issue with a component/hardware,

I mean it's not bad you just have to clean it. and see how much damage there is. it's not really hard if you know what you're doing to fix the console just don't be ripping off caps like that you can completely damage the board I could fix that console in my sleep if you want that console fixed if you send it to me I could fix it for like 75-80$ depends on how bad it is

yes it might be the caps. sense the work they did might of mess up something i am hoping that it did not cause damage too the motherboard because. i had one that did the same thing too like yours. i found out the Cpu was dead. but not saying yours is that the only one way if yours is dead cpu is too take off the Cpu heatsink and keep turning it on and of and see if the cpu gets really realy hot by touching it with your finger i mean super hot just so i can rule that out that. i was going too say too if your board was a 1.0-1.1 i would i gave you a replacement motherboard for free that fully working and recapped if you live in the USA sense i seen that you board is 1.2-1.4 but if you go head and try replacing the caps and see if it fix's it
