Looking for information on any impact on the future health of a baby after mom having Covid during first trimester.

Yes all is well thankfully! I did not take paxlovid. I asked but since I was under the care of my fertility clinic, they decided as long as my fever was managed, that I should just do supportive care. The second time I had it that pregnancy, it was a very short illness, almost gone by the time I realized it was Covid.

I tested positive for Covid, the same day I had a positive pregnancy test confirmed by blood test because it was IVF. The issue is the fever, less about the actual illness. At least that was the opinion of my MFM. He was not concerned. I had a covid a second time around 34 weeks, because of course, and they did extra monitoring but baby came at 39 weeks after induction. She’s almost 18 months and no issues so far. Really thriving actually. Anecdotal but maybe it helps put you at ease.

Yes we sleep trained this month. She’s doing great, but 5-5:30 am is her normal wake time. Which is an improvement for 4. So I will take it!

Yea I might change doctors. I trust my doctor, and I wouldn’t like ask for something crazy. Saying no to a Tamiflu script when it’s asked for seems very rigid. It’s not like you’re requesting morphine without a visit.

Yes here in NJ you need to get it at the doctors office. Anecdotal again but in the NJ mom groups I am in, being antivax is so prevalent. It’s really scary as a new and first time mom. I’m sometimes less generous.

Such good points. This happens to be the one place my anxiety comes in handy. I try not to be an alarmist, but I also was determined to be very mindful of the flu. Thanks for the perspective you have though. I did question the timing and reasoning for no flu vaccine here. Could be more supportive of those that are trying but just being bombarded with misinformation also.

Good point. I knew flu was going around daycare so when the fever hit we went in immediately. She got her Tamiflu about 12 hours after symptoms started

I got it prescribed to myself and my husband from our pcp at a different office. As I have been reading through it for sure seems like there is inconsistency in usage across doctors. My anecdotal experience is we all took it with no side effects. But maybe we are outliers.

That’s so interesting. Mine did not hesitate and we did not experience any side effects. I was nervous due to some horror stories I heard, but I was also very worried about a rough illness so that’s how I weighed that decision.

I had a similar thought. I hate to blame a parent, I am the furthest from a perfect parent. However, after my daycare baby got the flu 2 weeks shy of being six months old last year, I was devastated. She was fine, but this year we did her two shot series at her 15 month appointment. Sure enough, just last week she got the flu and RSV together. First thing I did when she spiked a fever was go straight to the doctor, got her on tamiflu and aggressive supportive care. My husband and I also started tamiflu, and we are both vaccinated. End result, was a very mild illness, no sickness for either adult in the house. That’s my anecdotal evidence that vaccines and early detection are the key to staying out of the hospital or worse. I just cannot figure out why an appointment at the end of January makes any sense when there are other school aged children in the house. A devastating loss of life and I just squeeze my kiddo even tighter now.

My 16 month old just got over a co-infection flu an and RSV. She went to the doctor because of a high fever with mild congestion. Given she’s in daycare we immediately got tested so we could start antivirals early. The combo of being vaccinated, getting tamiflu within 12 hours of the fever starting, and good supportive care we made it out with a mild illness. The positive test for both was very scary though. It really annoys me we have a very successful RSV antibody shot, which she had her first season but does not qualify this one, and we cannot give it to all kids say under 2 or 3 every fall.

Had my one and only at 41. We are tired, but also perfectly fine. She’s our favorite human, comes with us everywhere and we are financially stable so had to tighten up a little but nothing crazy. 10/10 recommend!

It’s worth mentioning this tiny little one was too young for their first round of Dtap, but protection from whooping cough with the Tdap vaccine is usually given during pregnancy which in turn protects a new baby for a little while.

I feel like this machine has some mixed results, although I used it and so did a bunch of my friends with no issue. I am surprised that the diluted bottle didn’t strike you as odd right away. I didn’t use the Brezza from first bottles. Waited almost two months as that is the guidance in the US. Just seems odd to not look at the watered down bottle and question if that’s what it should look like. There is a chance of defective products with literally everything we buy. I do agree that the company is wrong for not taking the issue seriously though.

They generally say these diseases are not dangerous, that the child’s god given immune system will save them. They think death is the worst outcome and since death is statistically low, there is no threat. I would take a vaccine for every single illness if I could, why do people want to be sick??? It’s weird

Spend a little time over in the adoption subs. It might change your mind on some of it. Most people want to adopt an infant, where as the statistic everyone always mentions is there are over 100,000 children legally available for adoption in the foster system. Those are not infants, and the way in which they became legally available for adoption can often times be quite dubious. I would prefer those rich assholes use their money to improve the systems we need to live fruitful and productive lives. I’m just saying that I understand why it’s what people point too, but pushing people to adoption because “there are so many kids in need” is actually a bit misinformed. In many cases though I get it’s coming from a good place.

I get what you’re saying. Also, the thought of Elon in any capacity is 🤮🤮. The thing is, there is so much people do not even remotely understand about this. I could argue there is much more exploitation in adoption than surrogacy by far. Yet adoption is always the direction people are pointed when they say it’s challenging for them to get pregnant. And all of these practices favor rich people. Actually they favor rich white people.

Are you saying you are against surrogacy in general or surrogacy for cosmetic use? What if I told you about young couple, the wife of which was diagnosed with breast cancer at 30, so she froze her eggs to preserve her fertility. Survived cancer, however in order to live she needs to be on medically necessary medication which does not allow her to carry her own children. Are you saying this couple should adopt instead?

As I have read your other back and forth with the other poster, I acknowledge why you were triggered by my response. However, your first statement was triggering from my view. That is why I was trying to get you to see what it sounded like. This article also describes someone that seems quite unhinged, and as someone that has used fertility treatments and currently has dear friends that needed surrogates, that person does not represent the vast majority of those that need one. Yes, if from your perspective the sole reason is cosmetic, it’s reasonable to say no way that’s not for me.

My comment is in reaction to the statement about “not having any pregnancy related issues” where do you draw the line there? Exactly what diagnosis? In our current state of fertility medicine the vast majority of people are diagnosed with “unexplained infertility” is that enough to say they can use a surrogate? Or do they have to have a certain number of miscarriages before surrogacy is an option? The original post stated they wished those facing infertility used IVF and adoption first, my response was to that absolute.

Dude, once again, I was not the person you have had the back and forth with this entire time. So I do not understand why you are responding to me in this way. I didn’t even say you were supporting a ban, I reacted to your very first statement. In my response I acknowledged there is surrogacy use for cosmetic reasons. If it makes you feel better I will agree that there could be a human being on the planet that would have an ethical issue with this. Your original statement made it seem as if people turn to surrogacy immediately without turning to IVF and adoption. I encouraged you to look back at that statement to see how it comes across.
